DMB Cover Bands

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

DMB Cover Bands

Unread post by DmbFanJason » Sat Oct 05, 2002 11:29 pm

Who do you think is the best Dave Matthews cover band??...I would probably have to say DMCB, although it seems like he hits the guitar too hard or fast or something...I also catch him playing things slightly off too...If you don't know what I am talking about, go here if ya got time...peace out.

There's a DMB tribute band that's played around here called One Sweet World, and they're pretty good. :D

I have heard them, but you should check out DMCB, I think they are better. Some of the cover bands I just laugh at, but hey, at least they are in a band right?!

Yeah I have a question about OSW, clearly they are very good musicians but if you're going to "do" a cover band project and not just cover the songs but the attempt to create the same vibe as DMB why not then try to sing like Dave Matthews instead of singing like oneself?

I don't understand why the lead singer doesn't attempt to sing like Dave? Am I missing the point here?

Perhaps they want to refrain from crossing the line into creepy or obsessive.

And usually when you "try" to sing like dave, or any singer for that matter, it comes out sounding horrible (trying to sound like dave often comes off as sounding like kermit the frog). Using your natural voice the way it's intended to sound is usually the best route

the one i was going to play for two step, has an amazing drummer, saxaphonist, and bassist. the others are good but those three are insane. however, the drummer sings and he's not a very good singer.

i just don't get it, why try so hard to copy/re-create DMB's music and then sing in your own voice, it's like DMB with a replacement singer, that's just awkward

worse than tribute acts are tribute acts that demand a lot of shit in their rider like they are actual rockstars, like dudes, let me get this straight, you want a $$ guarantee, water, booze, food, a hotel room, etc. and you didn't even write the music?! wtf?!

i think there were two DMB tribute/cover bands called tripping billies. I saw one at harpers ferry in Allston (Boston), MA a few years ago and they were damn good. The singer even looked a little like dave, it was creepy.
