New recording equipment....(Sufjan Stevens cover inside)

Unread post by captainburrito » Mon Aug 14, 2006 8:58 pm

Hey everyone, I just got a new microphone (one that isnt a $9 computer mic) and a preamp. I have only had it for a few hours, so I am not great at all of this recording stuff, but I decided to try to play " For The Widows In Paradise, For the fatherless in Ypsilanti" by Sufjan Stevens. I don't think it turned out terribly. Would you guys please give it a listen to see what terrible recording faux pas I may have committed, thanks.

Oh yeah, and the recording nded up being a little quiet...i am still working on that part without it getting to poppy.

Oh, and I am pretty sure I got some of the words wrong ( I was doing it from memory)...and my horn section impression could use some work.

i enjoyed it. the guitar was good, your voice was good. i really don't have much to critique except it sounds like you have the same disease i do when i comes to singing...the scratchy voice. it really does work to the advantage a lot though and i think it worked well in this song. good job.

Thanks a lot for the comment! Yeah, I have been trying not to be so scratchy when I sing, but it always comes out a little bit rough.

Nice to see someone else covering some Sufjan! I was actually going to record this one recently too.

You did a fine job. Voice was fine, guitar was fine. A dandy solo performance. :)

Deffinatly not a disease, Its a uniqness. It may not be good on the vocals but still catches a lot of peoples ear. Look at Tom C.

Sounded good Cap. I'm not familiar with Surf but Iknow a lot of peeps on here are so maybe they can help more.
