I just find it hard to believe that a dedicated pci card wouldn't improve the quality of what you're working with. Maybe it's just necessary to handle all the extra data that the 001 is capable of handling...

Also, the digi001 does not have any XLR inputs (the three-pronged mic cables), while the mbox utilizes these funky combination XLR/1/4" (guitar cord) inputs, so if you're using any XLR mics with the 001 you would have to get either adapters or XLR-->1/4" cables.

It *shouldn't* but I can't guarantee it. The music guy who explained all this stuff to me said that the quality is the same with both, and that the usb does not degrade/slow down the mbox at all. Don't know, though, can't debate it. All I know is that DigiDesign is the shit man.

Possibly, but you are asking for alot...this may be the best you can do. It's a brand new system, and it brags itself on the "6 tracks for a band" thing...

oooo, i saw a picture of a studio in my Guitar World magazine...it was all decked out with ProTools|HD boards and what not....very, very, very impressive. just a lil random thought there.

yup, the hd is what the studios use and it is incredible
