Tabs gone forever?!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Tabs gone forever?!

Unread post by Raif2032 » Mon Jul 24, 2006 9:53 pm

I was just visiting http://www.guitartabs.cc and I discovered some troubling news.

Apparently, the NMPA and the MPA are trying to have tabs taken off the internet for good. I don't know about you guys, but I learned guitar exclusively from listening to songs and reading tabs...i'm sure i'm not the only one. This would be a huge blow to music I think...yes people survived before but after this all people will only be able to learn by themselves by buying the "Gift of Guitar" from that rat-bastard esteban!!

Don't let it happen, stand up guys!

I dont think thats possible. Besides, the artists themselves would never stand for it... what is more flattering than someone trying to emulate your music?

very very true, but it wont happen. anyone can sit down with guitar and a good ear, and figure a song out without tabbooks (since they are all wrong anyway). but to not be able to share your skill ? i understand copyrighting recordings and lyrics, but you cant suppress knowhow, it makes no sense. whats next..copyrighting riffs?

I thought I would bump this as many major tab sites have now gone down or refuse to show tabs...

they may not be able to get a ruling that bans tabs from the internet in the long run, but they have effectively shut them down for the time being which is rediculous. i guess we just have to sit around and wait for them to become available again-whenever that may be. damned drawn-out litigations.

You do know that there's still tabs available on the net? Only some sites have stopped their tab-business. Other sites, like ultimate-guitar.com, still have tons of tabs up.
