Martin D-15 Mahogany Vs. Rosewood
Martin D-15 Mahogany Vs. Rosewood
I am interested in acquiring a Martin D-15 and I was wondering if you guys think it is worth the extra money to get the Rosewood ($1000) Vs. the Mahogany ($700). I have played the Mahogany and I loved it but I haven’t had a chance to play the Rosewood yet. Thanks.
Re: Martin D-15 Mahogany Vs. Rosewood
the rosewood has an added "oompf" in the low end, but the D-15 mahogany/sapele is a really nice guitar...brighter, but some will say more balanced. FWIW, if you want the best price, PM me and I can give you a great dealer to hook you up.kdz111 wrote:I am interested in acquiring a Martin D-15 and I was wondering if you guys think it is worth the extra money to get the Rosewood ($1000) Vs. the Mahogany ($700). I think the mahogany is the nicer guitar, the fact that it costs less is only an added bonus. Mahogany may be cheaper, so many think it is inferior to rosewood in tonal quality, but i prefer it over anything else for tone in a back and side wood. The sapele d15is on the only mahogany topped guitar that i like.

When I was going for a "high end" guitar, I played the Martin D-16GT with its mahogany back and sides. It was nice, but then I picked up the D-35, and said to the guitar dude, "Dude, I have to own this guitar." So yeah, it was the rosewood that I liked more. But play them both and see which one your ears like better.
Go with the D-16RGT. Rosewood back and sides, Gloss Top...INCREDIBLE SOUND FOR AMAZING PRICE!
You'll find it at buffalobrosguitars.com or elderly.com for around $890.

If not, why not just install a pickup?
