Welcome to the boards. You're not going to find a better tab most likely the one on this site is exactly what Dave plays. As for the words on the tab, they are from the song Crazy(the original song). Captain was derived from this song. If you can find a version of it and learn to play with it that might help for playing with Captain. Otherwise, just practice alot. Most of the chord changes can be heard pretty clearly, so just listen alot and then play along. Hope that was of some help to you.

There's a version of the Crazy that I do believe that Dave plays by himself. I don't think Tim helps him with it, at least I can't hear him. But the version is on the Lost Acoustic collection that someone posted up a while ago. If you can get a hold of that, it might help.

I'd upload it, but I'm not at my computer for the next two weeks.

Hey, does anyone know the chord progression for the instrumental portion of Captain (a la Lillywhite Sessions)? I'm talking about the short like 30-second part where it's just Dave, Leroi, and Boyd playing and it sounds sweet as hell.

Alright, this is what I hear, but it's probably off, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong (my first time attempting a tab):

Code: Select all

E:---------------
B:-5---5---5-----
G:-6---6---6-----
D:-6---6---6-----
A:-4---x---x-----
E:-----5---2-----

i can play captain/crazy quite well, but i dont think i could do it live cause the stretches would probably catch up with me. i would love to do it though cause its definately one of my favorite songs (more so crazy). anyone have experience with nailing captain flawlessly? should i just practice practice practice (the obvious answer, but not sure how far that will get me with it being a physical problem)? anyone have a good alternate version of chords that replicates the sound well?

Before I knew anything about playing Dave's music, I figured this song out by ear, and this is how I played it.

Code: Select all

E:---------------------
B:---------------------
G:---8---------7-----6-
D:---6----9----x-----x--
A:---4----6----5-----4---
E:--------4----7-----5---
Obviously those are just the chords, but I found that way easier to play. It's basically the same chords minus one note.

There's definitely more to it than that, if you listen to the LWS version. You can hear the G and B strings being used.

But I'm only talking about the short interlude part, where it's only instrumental.

Just listen to the song. Structurally, it's pretty simple. There are only like 3 parts.
