Re: This pisses me off!!
Why? I think it's a great example of buying a guitar with your ears and not with what's written on the headstock. Perhaps these two people, apparently somewhat experienced musicians, walked into a music store, played a ton of guitars, and bought what they liked.Lbacker wrote:I was blown away when I read that. How do these people not know what kind of guitar they have??!? Anyone ever run into people when their playing and you ask them about their guitar and they have no clue what model or woods are in it. Pisses me off, I own a Washburn D8 ($219.99) and I know EVERYTHING about it. Pitiful I know, but know your gear people. My 2 cents.
I'd bet they don't go to guitar websites, message boards, nor shop for guitars online. They shop by ear. They played those guitars, liked the sound, and bought it. Honestly, what difference does it make about knowing the model/make/anything. If you like the sound, it's a good guitar

Even if you feel they don't deserve such nice guitars since they don't know enough to appreciate them... they do. And I'm sure they appreciate the SOUND, even if they don't know what's written on the label.

These are not expereienced muscians. I got back to talking to them the other night and they both said this is their first and only guitar, only playing 3 years.Jester29 wrote:Why? I kind of look at this like someone who owns a sports car..lets say an M3. A 30 somethin man might recieve a raise and decide, hell I want a nice car. So he walks into a BMW dealer thinkin he can get a sweet right, he wants a fast car that he will enjoy thats quality built. They point him to the M and he buys it. He enjoys and loves it for the speed and likes it cause it looks cool, yet he does not know anything about the engine or engineering that went into the car, hell it works great and he's happy.
But the other guy is the man who has always looked at BMW's his whole life and has owned Accords and Hyundai crap boxes, and decades later he can walk into a BMW dealer and say this is the one I want and finally say he is a proud own of an M3.
Unlike the first man, the second dude has always set the M3 as his pinnacle, its something to reach for and its after all the crab boxes and midlevel rides he has got the M. The first man, decided to buy a sports car for the first time and came across the M3 only by recomendation by the sales associate. I am the second man.
thats how it is man, old people get some money and decide to start a hobby and some guy at a music store suckers them in to buying a priceyone

My girlfrined's dad is a perfect example. Cant play a note on the guitar but still has 10 guitars hanging up on his wall. Some include and ovation 12 string, Gibson Les Paul, Yamaha Travel guitar normal sting and nylon string, another gibson, and a Strat. Its sweet for me cause I get to play them when he's not there.

Blam BlamKa Plooey.
err... dont you have a D-35 tony? some of us are still on our 35 year old, handed down, martin sister company, adjust the truss rod with the change of the seasons, try to keep it in tune beaters. Jerk.dmbvideos wrote:I graduated college and now I have a salaried job.

Hell yeah, I'm going to buy a nice guitar when the money is saved up.
You'll get money one day too, and you'll be able to drop $2000 on a guitar like it's nothing.

my guess is Martin, because they know I'm a big fan (I toured their factory and have 2 martin t-shirts, even though I don't have a guitar from them) I just hope they did some research (maybe read my posts on here?) because if they just got the "best" (most exspensive) one they could afford, it may be an X-series... which would sadden me.
I really appreciate my family doing something like this for me, but when it comes to something like an Acoustic guitar, I'm the kinda person that would much rather shop around, play 500 of them, and find the one that suits me best.
