Question about Tablatures

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Sorry about my ignorance, but what does a tab note mean when it is in brackets. For example....(2)

I believe it means an optional note.....I may be wrong though.

On my tabs, and some of others, it can also means a questionable note. Here, though, it's optional.

I thought it was like a "ghost note"....one that, if it's played, is not played as loudly as the others
