hardest to play
hardest to play
i was wondering is there a song, ( by any artist) that is known in the guitar world as one of the more challanging or hardest song to play? i know that asfar as dave mathews there is some that are more hard than others. im wondering in general though. all songs by all artists. is there one to be concidered to be very hard.
i know that there is know such thing as "hard songs".just people that have not practiced long enough to get them down. i have heard that "hotel cali" by the eagles was one of the hardest? though i would think anything classical would be very hard.

I don't know who told you, but "Hotel California" is not one of the hardest things in the world to play.
I know of no such "Holy Grail" of guitar song. There are many songs that are very difficult. Difficulty, of course depends on experience. A trained classical guitarist would be much more able to handle a piece than I would.
Additionally, I doubt a trained classical guitarist would be able to pick up a Yngwie Malmsteem (yes he sucks, sake of example) song and just shred.

I'd guess some rediculously fast metal song is probably the hardest to play.
While shredding may come off as cheesy or corny it takes some mad skillz to play that fast and accurate. It requires total independent control of each digit and complete thoughtless knowledge of the fretboard. And playing rhythm as fast as someone like, say, Dave Mustaine is crazy hard too. Playing chords as 64th notes? Madness. I'd love to have the skill that a lot of metal players have. Without the hair, of course.

You want something hard to play? It's not a guitar song, but a lead line by Frank Zappa called "Black Page". We used to use it in our Solfegge class at the music school at CalArts. It's about the densest line I've ever seen. We use to use it for its rythmic complexity, with lots of metric modulsations and 7 over 12 figures and other cross rhythms. Some of the best players of any instrument in the world have taken a crack at it.
Eric Johnson-Cliffs of Dover. Nuff Said. No seriously, I'm trying to learn this song and it is hard man. Check out the vid on Youtube.

Stairway to heaven. I've only met one guy who could play it. I remember walking into a guitar center once and I heard the guy playing it and was like "Holy shit man! You can play stairway?? I wish I had your skillz!!!".

Stairway to heaven? Its tricky but definitely not up there. I learnt the solo as a year 10 piece at school.
Evey Hammond: Who--who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what... and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Yamaha Pacifica 112> Crybaby Wah> Route 66 American Overdrive/Comp> Phase 90 (mod)> Blues Driver> Boss Volume Pedal> Boss DD-6 Delay> Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Maton Performer Series> Fender Acoustasonic Deluxe
