guitar and timing needs some work for all of them, you don't quite have the rhythm that is essential to those songs. still, good job, especially your voice. get a better recording setup though!! how did you record those? the insane self-noise and fluctuating volume makes me wonder.

(didn't mean to sound negative, those are better than a lot of dave covers I hear!)

Grey Street feels really rushed. Slow it down a bit. Maybe try playing along with an actual DMB or Dave and Tim recording, then play it by yourself, to try and get the timing.

The guitar on Granny and OSW both need some work, again with the timing. You have enough of a voice to be able to sing the songs. Getting the guitar parts down is the biggest thing I recommend for you.

Nice work though, thanks for sharing. Keep it up, and good luck with future recording

Good stuff, really. To start with my recommendation, your strumming overall has a lot of room to grow (DUDU), but working in particular on the signature dave matthews chuck could really do wonders for you I think.

while it is a cover and you should play however you want, working on this wil do two things for you. First off it will really fill the space in playing solo, when dave is solo he gets particularly percussive. Secondly and more importantly, it will really improve your timing and rhythm. Dave loves timing and uses mutes, slaps, chucks, and rakes as much for timing as percussion.

here are some great vids that highlights this:
Benaroya Nancies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBT_u9Ys ... %20nancies
Benaroya Fool To Think
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmnBA4_W ... to%20think

Take note specifically how he uses little chucks to keep timing even when he is playin quietly.

I can throw up and a short example of me doing the riffs for the songs you cover if that would help with what I mean. Good work though, if I could sing like you I would be at the bar playing every night.

Wow thank you both alot. Yes i need to work on my strumming and timing a bit. That would be wonderful if you could throw up a video of you strumming. Could you possible do tripping billies? ive been working on that for a while. I watched those videos and I am amazed everytime i see dave play anything. To be honest i don't even know what mutes, slaps, chuchks, and rakes are. i have no clue how he does what he does with his right hand. I definatley nee some help there. could anyone help me out? i think i know how to mute. Kindof :? :D thanks for all the help again

Play songs on your guitar while listening and playing along to the recorded cd version on your headphones. Once you get the rhythm and strumming down, then add singing.

Muting comes with practice. Half the time I don't realize I'm even doing it, just comes naturally after a while. Any other guitar player that listens to me for the first time, even if i'm not playing dave, always seems to ask, "You play a lot of Dave, don't you?" It's just if you listen enough to him, eventually it all the mutes and timing just fall into place. Just be patient and keep practicing, it all comes with time.

my audacity is being retarded so hears a crap version of me on windows sound recorder in one take. guess it serves the purpose. just a tiny section of each of the three songs you did with some chucks and what not.

im certainly no master, ive only been playing for 6 months and this is no great rendition of mine, but i just thought that maybe having clean solo acoustic versions of the songs might help you hear whats going on. now just start using your guitar like a drum and start exploring sounds. ill do a write up as i said tommorw.
