A Few Things DMB can learn from Pearl Jam
So I saw Pearl Jam Friday, and it was an excellent show. If you ever get a chance to see them, I'd highly recommend it.
Anyway, the day after the show I hit up their site's forum, and learned some things the band does thatI think DMB should take note of.
1. Official Concert Downloads: I've brought this up before I know. Pearl Jam (and other bands, like Phish a couple years back) have an excellent program in place that would fit perfectly for DMB. 1-3 days after a show, it is available for digital purchase download from their site. $9.99 for the whole show on mp3, $14.99 for the whole show on flac. Naturally, all the shows are soundboard quality. I would much rather drop 10 bucks for a perfect quality bootleg of a DMB show I saw then find a torrent, hope its a good quality tape, download it and convert it for free. I think a lot of people here would agree with me on that.
2. Fan Club Ticket Policy: Now I'm not 100% sure how Pearl Jam's fan club (Ten Club) ticket policy works, but from what I've gathered it goes something like this. Every member joins gets a number. So if I was the first fan to join the club, my number would be 1. The lower your number, the better tickets you get. I believe they do a pre-sale like DMB does a week or so after the dates are annoucned. Naturally, if members 2-4 didn't sign up for a cetrain show, member 5 would get the second best seats in the house. I think this rewards seniority so much better than 3 extra tracks on the Warehouse 5 bonus disc. Though it is much too late for DMB to adopt this policy, I think they can reform the Warehouse to better serve its fans.
3. Individual Concert Posters: Usually DMB has 4 or 5 poster artwork options for a tour. They pick one of the designs for a certain show, put the date and venue on it, then sell it at the merch stands. A week later, the same artwork will be used, but with a different venue on it. While the Gorge and Fenway might get unique posters, most shows do not. Pearl Jam, on the other hand, has completely unique posters for each show of the tour. Unfortunatly, they don't make a lot for each show, probably like 500-1000, so they sell out pretty quick (i got one in pittsburgh, its so badass). They also sell uniform tour posters as well for cheaper. Even though they don't make a whole lot of them, I think the individual concert posters definitly adds some personality and sentiment to each individual show. In 05 I bought the DMB Burgettstown poster, but didn't buy one in Columbus because its was the same poster, different date. If DMB had completely unique posters for each show, I would try to pick one up at every show I went to.

edit: Do you mean a really good one (in your opinion of course, cuz PJ blows IMO) or do you wish they acutally put out an album that sounded like PJ?

I would hope. But still, Id rather listen to Everyday, all day, then any PJ record, but again, thats just my opinion, I hate PJ (incase I hadnt made that abundantly clear yet...)Nitro1515 wrote:I think hes talking about making a good album again, not sounding like themjsgksu wrote:RunsWithBuffalo wrote:I would also like to see DMB make a record like Pearl Jam just did, its fucking fantastic.
