So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Hello everyone, im new to the boards and was wondering if someone could help me out with this song. Im just a little confused as to where to play the this section
Code: Select all
E:---------------------------------------------
B:-3----3--------3----------3------------3-----
G:-0h2--------2--2h4--2------------------------
D:-0-------0-------------0---------0-----------
A:------------------------------2-----2-----2--
E:---------------------------------------------
(1) 3 1 (4) 1 3 1 1 3 1
Does it always come in before the chorus or is it just in the first verse? Thanks a lot for the help and the great site.

first off, welcome to the boards. and i dont' have my guitar in front of me, but that looks like the verse. i think you play that several times, including before the chorus. i'm a bit unclear though of the question

that's one way to play it. The thing about this song, it's about 70% improv for the picking. You just play what you like.

Code: Select all
E:---------------------------------------------
B:-3----3--------3----------3------------3-----
G:-0h2--------2--2h4--2------------------------
D:-0-------0-------------0---------0-----------
A:------------------------------2-----2-----2--
E:---------------------------------------------
(1) 3 1 (4) 1 3 1 1 3 1
but instead i always just end up using this part instead
Code: Select all
E:--------------------------------------------------
B:-3----3--------3----------3------------3-----3----
G:-0h2--------2--2h4--2------------------------0h2--
D:-0-------0-------------0---------2-----------0----
A:------------------------------3-----3-----3-------
E:--------------------------------------------------
(1) 3 1 (4) 1 3 2 1 2 3 2 (1)
for some reason it just kinda sounds and feels better. any more insight on how to place this part would be great, thanks guys.

Just do what feels good and sounds good. Thats what dave does.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I never use it that way. I think it sounds bad. I use C (3rd fret) on the A-string instead.
