Elixers

Unread post by CPTino3001 » Sat Jan 11, 2003 1:42 am

I have come to the conclusion that Elixer Strings pale in comparison with D'Addarios. After playing a few songs in Drop D, I quickly realized that all the nice sound I had had completely vanished. Thank god I received them as a stocking stuffer, and had not spent my own money on them.

What kind of guitar are you using? Because on my Takamine the D'Addarios weren't too great. I love my Elixirs in all tunings.

Amen to that.......I hated every set I ever bought. My G string always broke after about a week of playing them. Just not worth the cash.

I still can't figure out how you people break strings so much.

In all of my playing, ive never broke any other string except for the G elixir, and that happend about 3 times before I quit buying them. I really liked the fast action they offered, but in my opinon the sound and longevity was pale to that of Daddario's.

I used to only use Elixirs religiously but it really just depends on your guitar and the type of sound you want.

Elixirs: The lifetime for the money is just a disappointment. Personally I hate the "new string" sound - any type of string always sounds kind of "boxy" at first. Elixirs seem to plow right past this phase but unfortunately, if you play a lot, you replace them often. The sound clarity and projection is fantastic though the string tone is exceptionally bright regardless of guitar. The playability of the strings is nice especially when you're getting started on guitar.

D'addarion EXP: This is what made me leave the Elixirs! Once these strings get settled into the guitar the sound keeps improving with age (like a fine wine) until they just flat out die. To me the strings just have a nice all around warm tone with exception bass response. They can also take a LOT of abuse...even the custom lights!

I've been playing with the new Martin SP strings on and off but still have mixed feelings about those.

Ha
I havn't broken a string since...well I can't remember....even with Elixer lights (note the correct spelling  )

I bought some D'adarios and hated them...funny eh'?
Too bulky and just sound too chunky.

I change my strings because i play them to the point of no accurate tone is left (you play an A on the top of the fretboard and it sounds different from when you play it down low...they just won't tune)

...for me, i change strings about once every 2 and a half weeks...

for future reference for everyone, the correct spelling is actually "Elixir" (no e in the middle).

elixers are nice when recording, because they dont squeek.. that's about the only good use i've found for them.

Elixirs

Unread post by CPTino3001 » Sun Jan 12, 2003 1:35 am

First of all give me a break on the spelling thing...Secondly, the only thing I liked about the Elixirs was that they were a little i guess "slicker" and they dont squeek
