play along, the first chord is an E, if you play it and it sounds off then its a half step down.

No, they play it in standard. The first chord is an E7 at the seventh fret.

I know, I play it that way in the beginning, but when I get into the verse and such i just play straight E and A. Then C and D. You know what I mean.

Hmm, intro: E-B-G-D-A-E = x-9-7-9-7-x, 5-5-6-7-7-5, alternate until verse. When you get to the verse it's C and Em alternating, then it gets to the D, then C then Em.
My friend does pull-offs during the first part of the intro and it sounds spot on, but i can't remember how he did it...
Try that tho... It sounds right.
Er... Really? Was she.. Er... Naked?

easy e, your chords go along with the chords i saw for tuning a 1/2 step down.. i found a video of staind covering black and he plays it the way you are explaining and he is tuning 1/2 step down like here at this site -
http://www.azchords.com/s/staind-tabs-3 ... 39605.html .. but khilmaros is explaining it right for standard tuning. I was just wondering how pearl jam plays it.. i think it sounds better 1/2 step down.. but i dunno
and all the little ants are marching..
