nitro...not the song. dave's verse melody (his voice i mean). its teh same structure. that's teh first thing i noticed, and i said it somewhere else. not too much depth in the verse. he picks up in the chorus though, which is good. its just a very boring vocal melody (that sounds like the one from dream girl)Nitro1515 wrote:This song sounds nothing like Dreamgirl...Dave actually plays guitar the whole song and Carter doesn't sound like a drum machine. Also the lyrics aren't mindnumbingly stupid.

Are you discussing IDea of You? I think we will see the lyrics change over the next several shows. A lot of it seemed like jarble..well it is Davei-am-me wrote:nitro...not the song. dave's verse melody (his voice i mean). its teh same structure. that's teh first thing i noticed, and i said it somewhere else. not too much depth in the verse. he picks up in the chorus though, which is good. its just a very boring vocal melody (that sounds like the one from dream girl)Nitro1515 wrote:This song sounds nothing like Dreamgirl...Dave actually plays guitar the whole song and Carter doesn't sound like a drum machine. yes i'm talking about dream girl. but not the lyrics! the vocal melody!! if you were to hum dave's voice for the verse...it would remind me of dream girl.Lbacker wrote:Are you discussing IDea of You? I just listened to both to compare and I don't hear it. The guitar and the rest of the band more then make up for whatever melody Dave is singing in the verse.i-am-me wrote:nitro...not the song. dave's verse melody (his voice i mean). its teh same structure. that's teh first thing i noticed, and i said it somewhere else. not too much depth in the verse. he picks up in the chorus though, which is good. its just a very boring vocal melody (that sounds like the one from dream girl)Nitro1515 wrote:This song sounds nothing like Dreamgirl...Dave actually plays guitar the whole song and Carter doesn't sound like a drum machine. Yah I noticed this today too. He goes into this real throaty low pitch every now and then. Usually at the end of a line. It sounds like dream girl or like it is similair SU. I love the song (IOU) ha, but in the past he has never used this pitchi-am-me wrote:yes i'm talking about dream girl. but not the lyrics! the vocal melody!! if you were to hum dave's voice for the verse...it would remind me of dream girl.Lbacker wrote:Are you discussing IDea of You? exactly...its just repetetive singing without much range to it. don't get me wrong, i like the song. i just think the verse melody needs some change.Lbacker wrote:Yah I noticed this today too. i like dreamgirl too, how about daves guitar part in the chorus, very good i thought, Dream girl and american baby are the only half decent songs on that albumn. And the segue leading into and beggining louisana bayou (the rest of that is bad though, however i sometimes find myself singing 'down at the bayou trying to play with the caneou), and if you're in the right mood SAWGLbacker wrote:Which part of it..Lyrics? it's a powerful song, IOY.
Power is what a lot of the SU songs lacked I believe. The only exception being ABI, which is very powerful. I don't mean powerful in message or the type of song it is, so this means you can have a powerful sad and slow or happy and upbeat love song. Just that the overall feel and presentation of the song makes it powerful. SU just seemed softer, even the upbeat songs and all that. It is as if those songs could be stronger but they are only getting about 60% out of what DMB is capable of.
Examples of powerful, older songs: Seek Up, LIOG, Ants, Minarets, Crush. These arent the only ones but they are the first to come to mind. The songs all have different feels and meaning, but if you listen to each one and then listen to a song from SU, you can see what I am talking about.
