Guster, Dispatch, Dashboard etc.

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

I've heard a little bit about these bands but don't know much about them. Can someone tell me about them and recommend some songs to check out as well as some good songs to learn.

thanks

Any good groups I didn't mention to check out?

Dispatch: EVERY SINGLE SONG BY THEM KICKS ASS! Here are some recommendations
Flying Horses, Bridges, Hey Hey, Two Coins, Carry You, Out Loud and the General. BTW, if anyone has tabbed the solo to Carry You, please PM / IM me. I've only been playing for a short while but I am trying to tab it out by ear, I've got some of it down but its damn hard.
For tabs, go to Spatchpatch.com

Guster: In all honesty, there arent that many great tabs for this band at all. The only one I can play by them is Demons and Barrel of a Gun (recommendations, BTW). I Spy is also a GREAT song, too bad noone has tabbed it out correctly (maybe a Ranting Thespian might be able to help?? :D )

I also must admit I do like some Dashboard. Well, used to ... I am from Jersey so of course I was always involved in the "punk" scene. I dont play him however because his songs are pretty much all the same and he uses a lot of weird ass open tunings, so tuning into them is a pain in the ass. If you really want tho, you should learn Remember to Breathe, and Again I Go Unnoticed.

One more thing. As long as you're checking out all this stuff, check out some acoustic Saves the Day. These guys are amazing and their acoustic stuff is just fun as hell to learn and jam out to. Their lead singer / guitarist wrote their whole CD when he was in high school and recorded all the tracks (bass drums guitar vocals) by himself, amazing. Check out Jessie and myWhetstone, and Take Our Cars Now, and Im Sorry I'm Leaving. THeir electric stuff is also good, but hey its a different genre.

Yea. Hope this helps. PEACE

You go to App-State? I am there a couple of weekend or so to visit friends, its a great place, I actually like the mountains. Do you know anyone named Matt Mims, or Drew Russell? Just wondering ... cause my roommates know peeps from over there. Oh, and we should definetley try to get together and jam next time I'm over there, I haven t played with anyone who likes Dave as much as I do.

Hell yea man, I'll definetley let you know when I am gonna be in town. I'll bring my acoustic and we'll jam the hell out :)

And to answer heathcliff's answer (I cant use the quote function haah im retarded) I'm from Bedminster / Somerset County IN jersey. ANd I dont think alot of these bands allow live taping, except for Guster. Oh, and IN case you guys were looking for more acoustic Saves the Day, just look up Sonic Session, they do all their acoustic songs there.

I would also venture to guess they allow taping, as the show I went to they said, "If you haven't heard any of our songs, just go to Napster and download all of 'em. We don't care."

No shit.

Dispatch is ultimate hippy feel good music. If you like their stuff try and find stuff by Percy Hill, they are kind of local but very good. Guster stuff is pretty much the same. Dashboard is way emo, and the guy's voice is kind of annoying.
