Heh, Like most..

He's got some great shit, simple or not...

If someone else were playing Ben's stuff it would be totally different. Ben's just got the funk..
Yeah, you're right. I don't mind that its simple because I can play it and make it sound somewhat like he does.

I love his new album....he's got so many different types of songs on the album....its really unique.

Clarity is my favorite song on his new Album. Love that song, and its easy too. number 11 I believe sounds a lot like something that Dave would write/play. Just my opinion though

I think a lot of people get caught up in theory and worry about the mechanics of the music more than the actual finished project. Its like being the structural engineer versus the architect. People arent touched by a great structural design. They remember a beautiful building. To me, Mayer seems to be writing music just for the sake of writing music. Theory-wise, its really sound, and actually impressive. There's no emotion behind what hes doing though, at least in my eyes. He's a musician, and not much of an artist.

Ben is an artist. He can take the most simple progression and make something beautiful out of it...the guy figuratively bleeds on stage. Mayer, in my opinion, has a lot to learn about being an artist, regardless of his knowledge of theory.

exactly
Ben puts more emotion into his music than anyone

Oh, and Ben still has funk.

Mayer may know more about theory, and he might be a better musician, playing wise, but his songs DON'T hold up to Ben Harper's music. Just because Harper's songs are simple doesn't mean that they aren't powerful. His voice and song-writing skills far surpass John Mayer's poppy rubbish. There is hardly ever anything meaningful in a Mayer song, unless you think showing everyone up at the high school reunion is meaningful.

Just because Mayer can kick ass on the guitar doesn't make him a better musician. There has to be substance to the songs, something which Mayer sorely lacks.

hahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahha, thats the funnest shit ever .

I really don't think you're going to understand unless you buy a cd, or download one or two songs.

i think its just the way he sings it. the way he gets into it. and it's his voice. listening to him in studio is like listening to him live like he's holding nothing back. have you ever heard that song from mary j blige called something drama? like no more drama or something like that. that is the kind of emotion we're talking about. now granted i really don't liek that song much, but the emotion behind it makes it worth listening too. you'll have to hear it for yourself probably. but that's the best way i can describe it

it mostly is, his stuff is really easy to play except for his slide guitar stuff, that's pretty awesome. but comeon josh, you're better than that, at least give it a shot. go to walmart and put his cd under those little headphone thingies they have and just listen to like 5 minutes of something he plays. it really is awesome...but at least then you can say that you heard it then you decided you didn't like it

EDIT: are you talking about ben harper. casue i really can't believe that you haven't heard his stuff already. are we still talking about the same guy?
