Dave & Tim Live Trax... would you buy 'em? (DLs inside)
Dave & Tim Live Trax... would you buy 'em? (DLs inside)
Who else would buy these if they started releasing them? I'd love to get some of the great Dave & Tim shows out there on official releases, with soundboard recordings and some sort of mixing/mastering! I mean, sure, Live at Luther College is great, but that was only during the '96 D&T tour; the recordings I've got from the '97, '99, and even '03 tours show some serious improvements made by Dave and Tim over the years of playing the songs. And I'm just going off of the 20-some shows I've downloaded; I'm sure there's plenty more gems out there waiting to be released.
Some of my favorite D+T Shows... (check them out on DMBalmanac, download at http://www.dreamingtree.org)
1994-11-07 - sweet #36 acoustic, great hearing Dave sounding young still
1996-12-16 - D+T with Stefan on an upright acoustic bass for the whole show besides Christmas song!
1997-02-22 - see the set list, and you'll understand
1999-02-06 - my favorite LIOG, plus John Popper on Harmonica/vox for the encore!
1999-03-12, 3-13, 03-14 - three amazing nights in a row to cap off my favorite D&T tour. 3-14 includes Santana guesting on the first John the Relevator ever, along with Bob Weir on Watchtower
2003-03-29 - one of the best nights (hard to choose the best) of the '03 D&T tour
....yeah, that ended up being longer than I expected. Sorry, I just love D&T. Anyone else with me? haha

Check out some of the '93 & '94 D&T shows over at dreamingtree.org! They've got some pretty good soundboard and matrix (soundboard + audience mic mix) recordings for ya (4-22-93 & 4-21-94 immediately come to mind).

I'll convert the SHNs I've got to mp3 and upload them to yousendit or something. Might take me a little bit, but they'll be up evenetually.

And by the way, the quality isn't the best... was a "stealth audio" recording (meaning the mic was hid somehow, leads to not as good of recording quality as if it were on a stand). Play around with equalizer settings in your media player of choice to improve the sound of it some... increase the trebles a little more than the mids, and the mids a little more than the bass. Then give the whole thing a pre-amp boost (raises overall volume). Or at least settings similar to that helped me out.
Enjoy!

i think its a good idea, because it takes the repetitiveness issue out of the mix to a point, due to the sheer abundance. instead of fans being pissed about repetitiveness on these shows that are released once in a while, it will be obvious that the shows will have some repetitiveness. plus, how sweet would it be to have soundboard shows of every dmb show you have attended?GSR wrote:I'm pretty sure that stefan was on electric acoustic bass at that 1996 show.
I don't think dmb should do a regular live thing like phish or panic because people already bitch that they milk it with their "repetitive live albums" or whatever. the live trax series will do just fine for me.

Luckily, i checked it again out and realized it was a 96' show.

Sorry bout that earlier... was definitely an acoustic/electric bass, not an upright. And the text file that came along with the show (for good measure):
And while I wish they'd release more soundboards for d&t, or full band stuff, it's a moot point for newer shows now (in my opinion). Fan tapes have improved so much over the years that there are plenty audio/mic recordings post-99 that sound better than some earlier soundboard recordings out there. But ahhh, for how many people there are that love LALC, I'm shocked that there hasn't been a bigger push for more D&T releases. Maybe people just aren't aware of what's out there.
I think I'm gonna zip up another D+T show here soon and upload it to yousendit. I've got a good one in mind

Pearl Jam is offering their current tour for download, mp3 show for 10 bucks, flac for 15. They upload the soundboard like a day or two after the show, its pretty sweet. I would love to see dmb adopt this policy, though it might lead to the downfall of the taping community...filmdude100cms wrote:i wish theyd go to what phish eventually got to, along with panic, start putting out like tons and tons of shows for cheap flac downloads... they will eventually since you can already do some flac but its not in great quantity.
