Solid Body Acoustics (acoustic strat!)

I might be asking for a lot with this question but it's always bugged me.

how exactly do solid-body/chambered body acoustics work? those like the chet atkins sst, crowdster, and T-5?

could you use a hollow electric body
such as this one ->

and put acoustic pickups in it to get the same effect?

I've recently been very interested in building an electric when this idea struck me. could it be this "simple"?

could this even be accomplished?

well i found another forum and actually got some input from Tom Anderson himself and I'm going to go ahead and go through with this project.

but it sounds AMAZING. I'm going to use the same pickup system in my guitar and HOPE that the hallow strat body can hold a candle to the crowdster body.

I'm going to have the neck customized so that it can have enough space to hold regular acoustic strings. Mr. Anderson said that biggest downfall of the t-5 is that it uses electric strings and you just can't get a great acoustic sound like that.

I can update the progress here if anyone is interested.

Ya not many builders here. I'm buying a martin acoustic kit or something this summer and I'm going to build my first guitar, should be fun.

thats what it is... a chet is bsaically a modified electric body, with an acoustic pickup and wiring. youd have to have it in mind from the start, but yes its that easy... also, get a fishman powerbridge peizo, its like an electric bridge, but itll give you an acoutic pickup.
