not really dedicated to it, its a solo show, hes got plenty of 914's he needs 2 for a seperate on the drop a and the standard, not too far fetched.jacobie423 wrote:Why would he devote a 914 in drop A for one song? It doesn't make any sense unless it will be used for all raised b songs, which it was on 5/13. He played stay or leave with it.
Dave retired the 714?

I don't think he changed his 914 just for this show. I am thinking this is a permanent thing, just as his changing the 714 to raised b was a permanent change. If that is the case, it seems unlikely that he is keeping one solely in drop a, and here's why: Assuming that he has not purchased anymore 914's recently, he has 3 of them; one in standard, one in drop d. Now, I doubt that the last of the three is going to be kept in drop a from now on in that rare chance that the band wants to play "sister." I know he has the money to do something crazy like keep a guitar in an odd tuning just for one song, even when he has 100's of songs to choose from, but he only has four 914's. From the videos, Dave uses the same the guitar for both sister and and stay or leave, and he simply adjusts the low string. It seems more logical that he would devote his extra 914 (excluding the standard and drop d) to raised b songs, and simply make that adjustment when necessary, rather than keeping it in drop a for playing just one song. He has yet to devote any his guitars to the use of just one song, and I find it hard to believe that sister is anything different.

Thats good logic...but usually when dave plays solo he only uses one guitar. I have a video where he changes his dm3md to drop d to play bartender, instead of just using his drop d 914. Dave has a tendency to do things differently when he plays solo. With the full band he is most likely just to keep a different guitar for every single tuning he needs and then backups in case he breaks a string. the guitar rack that is offstage at shows is pretty extensive. Plus, we may be seeing more drop A tunings on the songs theyve been working on in the studio. So in all liekly hood Dave is going to have a guitar solely for drop A and a different guitar solely for raised B.jacobie423 wrote:I don't think he changed his 914 just for this show. And on a side note doesnt Taylor give Dave his guitar or at least at discounted prices because having artist use them like free advertising? I think ive read this before somewhere that Taylor does this with guitars that have very minor flaws in them...I could be imagining things though.

On Taylor's website it says that they won't give musicians anything for free or discounted because professionals are THAT dedicated to their instruments.
I'm in the process of buying an 814CE so i pretty much memorized the Taylor website.

Little of subject but i'm not a big fan of the 814CE. I really think one of the best cutaway models of a taylor that you can get for its price is the 514CE. I think the tone is almost as exact as the 714s and up. Just my opinion. Everybody has their own taste.Grasso wrote:On Taylor's website it says that they won't give musicians anything for free or discounted because professionals are THAT dedicated to their instruments.

I know everytime i start to read numbers prior or after guitar brands, I start losing the grip of the conversation until it wastes away...Kukini wrote:You guys look way to far into some things.

So the moral of the story is . . . Dave tends to use his one 714 on raised B tuning (or dropped A, as in sister), but if he feels like using a 914, then obviously he does. My god he probably has 3 to 12 or so (guestimating) guitar technicians that travel with him that are behind the scenes ready to have his guitars in any tune he wishes them to be in. He's prolly just fiddling around with his guitars to see which one sounds the best with the song, considering it's new. Dino was right, don't think so much into it.
EDIT: my bad, it was kuhini who said that, not dino

EDIT: sorry about my edits, but i'm slowly putting thoughts together ... what i meant was, other than monk he has several other guitar techs in the background doing little stuff like simply tuning.
