***CRITIQUE, CRITIQUE, CRITIQUE***

Unread post by Williamo1121 » Mon Oct 27, 2003 9:15 am

Alright guys... no offense but this is pretty sad. I've had about 100 people look and listen to the two songs I posted yesterday, Jimi Thing and #40, and only about 4 have actually responded with somewhat of a critique, which I am grateful for. It's why I posted them in the first place. So please, come on... if you're going to take the time to download them and listen the least you could do is leave me a note on what you think. Gracias.

First of all, the number of views of your post doesn't necessarily correspond to the number of people that actually downloaded your songs. Secondly, you're hosting with AngelFire so chances are a percentage of people that do attempt to download will not be able to due to bandwidth retstrictions. Finally, you posted your songs on a Sunday (less than 24 hours ago). The boards are much busier on the weeknights. Be a bit more patient, dude. You're not going to get people anxious to critique your stuff with derogatory posts like this.

I'll listen later and post some feedback.

I understand where you're coming from completely, but I guess I just had higher hopes about this forum. And, yes, it is upsetting when you see that a number of people have looked at the post and a majority haven't replied - I didn't consider the bandwith issues. Woo-hoo AngelFire.

Just listened to them both. I replied to the JT thread. Probably your lack of responses is also due to the fact that there's not much to critique. I mean they are just clips of the guitar only. Try finishing a song, adding some vocals and maybe an improv track. Make the songs your own.

Also, if you listen to and critique some of the other work here, those folks will probably return the favor...

Guitar sounds pretty solid on both, but to inspire a decent critique, I think they need vocals. Instrumental covers just arent going to get the same attention.

agreed. im not a huge fan of critiquing stuff w/ no vocals or only one guitar track. i think adding stuff to it makes people want to critique it. but really, be patient, ive posted many songs that only got 3 or 4 responses overall. and we're talking about 4 track recordings too.

The more depth the music has the more we can critiuqe it. I'm eager to critique originals no matter how many tracks they have but with covers you have to add your own flavor and go the extra mile. With an instrumental cover there really isn't much more we can say than "that sounded right" or "this is what you did wrong". In all honesty you can trust your own ears to tell you that. It helps to let us know where your at ability-wise so we can give better suited advice. If you can't sing or play lead tell us so we won't suggest it. I'm not trying to be a prick I just want the newbies to know that a simple instrumental cover can only get so much advice. Please continue posting cause we all like to help even if it doesn't come across that way.

yah, I totally don't critique posts when ppl whine about ppl not.. especially if they do within a like 48 hour window of time.. 'cause ppl like me don't check the forum hourly.. I check it maybe once ever 2-3 days.
