Who has had action adjusted? Some questions.
Who has had action adjusted? Some questions.
I just noticed yesterday after chaning the strings on my Alvarez RD10(cheap I know but sounds good) I noticed that the action is really high compared to a Takamine that a friend owns. Playing his guitar is so much easier and smoother. I think this may be one of the reasons that I have so much pain in fret hand.
Ive called around to a few places. One guy quoted $250 and I told him the guitar wasnt that much new. THe other places I am waiting to hear back from. What is the average price to have this done? Who has had this adjustment and how did it affect the way the guitar plays and sounds?
Is there any set string height that is preffered or do they all vary based on how you play?
Thanks for reading
Chris

i would save up another $50 and buy a second guitar that already has lower action. I have seen and bought some decent alvarezes and taks for $100 - $120 on craigslist and other sites.
Im not sure what craigslist is?
I actually looking at a Takamine EG340C. Im waiting on the local shop to bring one in so that I can play it.
I just found another company that will adjust it for 25-50 bucks. Im gonna have it done anyway so that I have two guitars that are playable.

find your city and search used stuff.
make sure the place doing it is doing it by shaving the saddle and/or nut.
ask them specifically if they are doing that or adjusting the truss rod.

Sometimes a truss rod adjustment is all you need if your neck is bowed. Ideally you want a straight neck with a little bit of upward curvature (relief). You'd be amazed how much a guitar can play with a good setup, even cheap guitars. I wouldn't pay more than 60 or so. I have played an RD10 and it was a very good sounding guitar which is all that matters so it would be worth the investment.
Where it gets expensive is when they have to build a new bridge piece or nut. 250 is a joke though.

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
