see i had your opinion for a LONG time. then i got a decent way to record and i listened to my old strings and the life of them and how the lasted in my recordings, and what ive found is that initially, uncoated strings always sound the best, but their sound deteriorates almost everday, noticably. and after like a month or 2, when you play as much as me, theyre dead. elixirs on the other hand have a very uniform and strong sound, i had one set on for 7 months and they sounded just as good in the 7th month as the day i put them on. after about 8 months the coating literallly began to peel at common frets like 3 and 5, but until that happened, they were the best.guitardmb wrote:I STRONGLY disagree. Elixers are not only three times as expensive as most strings, but they also dont sound the best. I do admit they are good. But you can get just as good for half the price.EnFuego wrote:praisedave wrote:go d'addario EXP16. everyone else is a hack

Well no offense to you. But if you are keeping strings on your guitar for more than a few weeks you must either not care of the sound, or you are not too experienced of a guitarist. To get the best sound out of your guitar you should change your strings at least once a month, if not twice a month, or even once a week.praisedave wrote:see i had your opinion for a LONG time. then i got a decent way to record and i listened to my old strings and the life of them and how the lasted in my recordings, and what ive found is that initially, uncoated strings always sound the best, but their sound deteriorates almost everday, noticably. and after like a month or 2, when you play as much as me, theyre dead. elixirs on the other hand have a very uniform and strong sound, i had one set on for 7 months and they sounded just as good in the 7th month as the day i put them on. after about 8 months the coating literallly began to peel at common frets like 3 and 5, but until that happened, they were the best.guitardmb wrote:I STRONGLY disagree. trust me i would love to change my strings that often, i however can't really afford that, or justify spending that much money on strings when elixirs sound and play just fine after 6 months.guitardmb wrote:Well no offense to you. i dont play any gigs and i dont record anything, but i cant stand playing any strings (elixirs as well) more than 1 month and a half...and i admit i do hear them sounding fucking shitty after 2 weeks...praisedave wrote:see i had your opinion for a LONG time. then i got a decent way to record and i listened to my old strings and the life of them and how the lasted in my recordings, and what ive found is that initially, uncoated strings always sound the best, but their sound deteriorates almost everday, noticably. and after like a month or 2, when you play as much as me, theyre dead. elixirs on the other hand have a very uniform and strong sound, i had one set on for 7 months and they sounded just as good in the 7th month as the day i put them on. after about 8 months the coating literallly began to peel at common frets like 3 and 5, but until that happened, they were the best.guitardmb wrote:I STRONGLY disagree. I use EXP's and I like them they work fine for me and last a long time. Elixers are good I just got to save money where I can.
