Everyday Is a Terrible DMB Album, But...

Unread post by Nitro1515 » Tue May 09, 2006 5:53 pm

...there is no denying the fact that it is a great electronic pop album when you listen to it in the right context.
As I drove to and from school today I listened to both UTTAD and ED. I listen to UTTAD on a regular basis, but this was the first time I listened to ED all the way through for the first time in a really long time. This time I went in with the mindset of this not being a DMB album, but an album by any generic pop rock band you can think of. I also didn't try to compare it to any other DMB album or think about how mad and disappointed I was when they scrapped the LWS for it (which is always the first thing I think about whenever I hear a song off the CD). I gotta say when you do all that you can begin to appreciate the album a lot more.

The lyrics on the album are fantastic and The Space Between is one beautiful song. The album is mixed extremely well, the bass sounds fantastic. Of course I wish there was more LeRoi and Boyd, but when they do join in it is done very well. LeRoi really carries Sleep to Dream Her, I love his part in that song. The only sore spot on the album is Angel, that song just flat out blows no matter how you approach it. Overall I really enjoyed listening to it. Of course when you compare it to the other albums it sucks, but as a standalone I gotta say its pretty damn good.

there are many solid songs on that album even TSB and Everyday. but together it turns my stomach. I can listen to it once then it's gotta go. twice in a row won't happen anymore.

I agree with Angel but also when the world ends

i think when the world ends is a good song, way better live. and dreams of our fathers is a very good song too. if i had it all would be my only complaint.

I like dave's singing on IIHIA. That song is way overproduced, but I still like it.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

im only thankful for the everyday album because it contains the studio version of one of my favorite live songs, What You Are....that song, particularly the CP recording, is kickass.

funny how when an everyday appreciation thread pops up theres only praise but everywhere else on the boards its flamed heavily...

i think the biggest problem is people dont give it enough of a chance to really get into it. granted its not quite btcs or uttad but damn its pretty good

I wouldn't exactly call this an ED appreciation thread. I was only able to enjoy it today because I cleared my mind out and listened to it for what it is, a pop album that could have been created by any pop band in the world. ED sucks when you compare it to their previous work, and I hate what it represents in the DMB world. Although as I listened to it today I gotta say ED >>> SU.

I think Everyday and Stand Up are very similar. None of the fans were really big on it when it first came out because it was different, but as we hear it more and hear many of the songs come into their own when performed live they're appreciated more.

Very well said, That song is about the most emotionaly correct song i've ever heard. the line 'The silence in me screaming won't you come and get me' brings back the time when i was shy and wasn't sure if girls liked me (was i a fool to think they did?) and was too afraid to ask but wished they would 'come and get me' so to speak.

The albumn has many many good songs, i'll admit its not as good as uttad or Crash or BTCS but its still much better than most of the other stuff out there.
IMO one of the reasons for it's initial unpopularity among fans was that first track 'i did it' with its crazy electric overdrive. That was a shock to me i can tell you. I read that 80% of people judge an albumn by its first track (although stats are mostly bull).

meiner meinung nach it's a very good albumn with some priceless pieces of pop perfection (holy alliteration batman)

P.s 'Sleep to dream her' what a fantastic idea for a song - the idea that you would sleep to simply just to dream of a girl, that is the genius of dave!
'Preoccupied and Dedicated to the Preservation of the Motion of the Hips' - Parliment Funkadelic

Dave Matthews on the outside, tasty on the inside.

I never really had a problem with Everyday. Its a solid album with dmb first actualyl bad song or 2. They were making all great songs until STDH and MF came along. but all and all this is solid and above average album for the music world today. Just not dmb's greatest. SU will not be coming around for me only select songs. But everday was always appreciated by me
