Dave plays Metallica

Unread post by calmpilot » Mon May 08, 2006 3:19 pm

I've been thinking: imagine Dave playing a Metallica song at concert, just out of nowhere start playing 'Enter Sandman', 'Sad But True' or even 'Nothing Else Matters'. Imagine that. Personally I think Dave could pull it off, given his attitude and overall singing style. I know Dave's stuff isn't that heavy, but he could sing it and play a guitar riff similar to the origional versions. If he can pull of Hendrix, and it seems he can in his own right, then I think Metallica could work. Crazy maybe, but possible.

i really could care less if he covers it, and im sure most fans would agree. And if he makes it sound good, who cares where it comes from. He'd prob have fun playing it and so would the fans, so who cares.

I don't think Metallica and Dave are completely incompatible. And, has been said, if Dave could make it sound good, it doesn't matter where it came from.

Further, Dave fans that also like Metallica would love to hear these covers. And finally, guys that like Metallica and don't like (know) Dave will probably start to pay more attention to his music.

Thus, I think it would only have advantages... :)

I love both DMB and Metallica (the pre black album days), but I don't think I'd really want to see this. I also wouldn't want to see Metallica attempt to cover a DMB song.

wouldn't happen, considering all the people i know who like metallica alot, those certain metal heads, would probably say he ruined the song, even though there the ones trying to learn how to play a bunch of notes really fast instead of looking upon technique.

How would he lose half his fanbase? He covers songs that I don't like all the time, but I still enjoy the rest of the music.

I know a lot of "metal heads" that like Apocolyptica(sp?) playing Metallica on 4 cellos. It's a selection of Metallica songs played by a string quartet. My brother in law is the biggest Metallica fan I know, and he loves that CD. Doesn't seem like something your typical "metal head" would like.

Plus, the die hard Metallica fans I know would much rather hear Dave Matthews, or DMB, cover a Metallica song then for Metallica to play with a symphony again ;)
