Crazy tunings?

Unread post by Teego Time » Thu May 04, 2006 8:31 pm

How do I tune my guitar to this:

B F# C# F# B F#

Is this raised B?

the vaginal fluid they are secreting is the same composition of urine minus the uric acid and phosphorous. i learned that in 11th grade anatomy. btw, sometimes it does have a FAINT smell of Pizzle.

is someone trying to learn a Don Ross tune?

if you are playing the song i think you are, then its not raised B. thats not even the tuning for raised B or baritone tuning

you should be able to tune to this on a standard set of strings if you action isn't extremely low. tune the low E down to B, and the A string down to F#. the D and G strings both go down a half step. the B obviously stays the same and the high E goes up to F#

Both the E strings would be too loose.

And it's not raised B .

I'd say:
Buy an additional A string.
Place strings like this:
Additional A string -> Low E position (tune it 1 step up)
A string -> A string (1 step and a half down)
D string -> D string (half a step down)
G string -> G string (half a step down)
B string -> B string (normal tuning)
E string -> E position (1 step up)

I think it should work this way

hey, what song are you trying to learn? Im always looking for more strange tunings and I have never seen this tuning. Plus, i have a line 6 variax acoustic, so i can easily change the tuning (through the amp at least...)on my guitar.

thanks

First off thanks guys. And secondly I think I'm going to learn Seeing Angels - John Butler. Sounds like good open mic fodder.

But I think I'll just transcribe it to standard.

I think it should work this way
that would make it a G, not a B, and it would be in the wrong register

why would the high E string be too loose? it would actually be tighter!

replacing the low E with and A string wouldn't make sense, because it would be in the wrong octave. what would be the point in tuning the 6th string to a note a fourth higher than the 5th string? that would be pretty stupid

you need to keep the E string and tune down to the B. like i said, if your action isn't very low, then it shouldn't be too loose and you would be on the correct B

i fixed it (i actually mistyped)

dude, i can bet $50 that the E string would be too loosy

oh, and replacing string positions is so stupid that a great moron, called David J. Matthews, does it for his raised B guitars ;)

i've done it on my guitar, and the B is not too loose.

i dont think you understand the concept of what im getting at, so maybe i will try to explain better.

lets say we do what you said to do: tune the extra A string up to a B and the normal A string down to an F#. if you do it this way then the 6th string is actually higher in pitch than the 5th string. any tuning that tells you to do that is pointless.

i didn't say that replacing the E string was a dumb idea, but you forget that this not raised B. if you did it your way then the registers would be completely fucked up. if he tuned it your way than every single note he plays on the low B string would be an octave too high and it wouldn't sound correct at all

Haha, I just translated the song to standard. It's pretty easy and fun to play- thought singing with it is a little tougher (maybe cuz I don't know the lyrics well).

Want me to tab it out?

Yep.
Evey Hammond: Who--who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what... and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

Code: Select all

John Butler
Seeing Angels – Standard Version
Tuning: E A D G B e

Capo: 1st Fret – Notes Relative

-The X’s represent palm strikes – you can make that noise while still striking the note. It’s tough but you can do it.

-I also didn’t include any variation because there’s a lot of it. Come up with your own stuff there.

Verse:
|-------x-----------3-x-2p0-----
|-----3-x-0--------3—-x------3--
|----4—-x----x----0---x---------
|---4---x----x--------x------x--
|--2----x-0—-0--------x------x--
|-------x----x-2-3----x------x--

Chorus:
|----------------------3--
|----3—----3-----3-----3--
|----2—----2-----2-----0--
|--0-0—----x-----x-----0--
|----0—--4-4---2-2-----x--
|--------------------3-3—-

-You can strum these chords, but I choose to pick them and add in some variations. They give you just the basic chords that he’s working with. Oh and the thing in the middle is what I believe is coming off the banjo, but you can play it on your guitar. Just remember that it gets really intense before you go to chorus so try to transition back to G before you hit the chorus.

Second Pre-chorus thing:
|--0—--3--	|---------	|--3--
|--0---3--	|--3---3—-	|--3--
|--0---0—- x2|--4---4--	|--0-- End
|--2---0--	|--2---0--	|--0-- On
|--2---x--	|---------	|--x--
|--0---3--	|--0---3--	|--3—

-Here it just sounds like a lot of variation of the A and Em chords. All I can say is experiment with stuff that may sound good!

End of song:
|------0
|--2---0
|--2---0
|--2---2
|--0---2
|------0
