Breaking strings from changing tunings.

Unread post by drakemh » Wed May 03, 2006 12:54 am

So I broke the high e on both of my acoustics saturday night from going back and forth between standard and DADGAD. I'll tune to DADGAD and back maybe once every other day, or just leave one of the two in it for a few days. I've been breaking the high e while tuning back up lately though. Is there something i can do about this? Stretch the strings more during restringing maybe? I know the obvious answer is to leave one in standard and one in dadgad, but they're both very different and i like playing them both in both tunings, and especially if i've got either one out playing for friends, i have to go back and forth cause my friends want to hear justin king stuff everytime i play now. The other option would be to get a third guitar to keep in dadgad, which i intend on eventually doing, but isn't financially feasible at the moment. Any suggestions?

Are you using medium or light gauge?

I personally don't see much options... Try to reduce the change in tune ot tell your friends to buy you some strings if they want to see you playing justin :)

try mediums, you probably wont have as much problem with it once your guitars get used to the heavier gauge

bite the bullet and just turn one of them into DADGAD and the other standard. It will save you the hassle of retuning guitars and buying strings all the damn time. I would get sick of that really quickly.

Yeah, Its always good to have a second guitar because tuning an e string up and down wears it out realy quick.

Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I forgot that my dad has an old alvarez that he never plays (and a taylor 810 for that matter, in favor of a takamine, bleh) so i'm gonna get that and keep it in dadgad.
