BUMP
Thought I'd give a little update on this interview I was talking about a little while back for anybody who cares.
I did a phone interview with Dave the other day. And yes, I almost shit my pants beforehand, but once i got going i was alright.
It was all really surreal at first. It's like "holy shit, i'm talking to dave matthews." Being such a big fan for such a long time, it was truly an honor.
On to the good stuff. All of his manorisms and the way he is in concert, davespeak, etc., it's definitely not an act. He's exactly the same way in just a little phone interview. I started out by telling him I was a huge fan and loved to play along to his music, but I just left the dick-eating at that. I didn't want to go too far.
We talked about the new album and how he was excited for it. He said he was proud of Stand Up, but he felt like they were just breaking the surface on that and he wants to go deeper. He's also excited for the new tour and road testing the new songs. He said "How else do you know if their good songs without feedback?"
And yes, I briefly brought up this site. He said he doesn't really like computers but he finds it funny that there would be a site so dedicated to learning how to play his songs 100 percent. He said "Shit, anybody can play like me, it can't be that hard," and laughed. He also commented that he laughed at the whole Facebook thing. He said, "At first I was like 'What the fuck is facebook?' Anything for the fans, I guess."
We talked a little bit about the whole England thing and how he was excited to go back with the band. So there ya go Milligan, paul, etc.
Drugs were casually brought up, he simply said "I've had my time."
I'll post the article when it is published in about a month. It was truly a dream come true for me. He didn't make me feel like I was wasting his time like other artists have done in interviews. He certainly has never let all of the hype and success go to his head. He sounds like a guy you could just sit down and have a couple smokes with while playing guitar and singing some tunes. Very laid back.

unfortunately we're not able to record our phone interviews, so no, I couldn't tape it. I just had to take notes.carter29 wrote:i'd love to hear it, you're so lucky manbtbesong wrote:that's awesome, congrats on the interview. about how long did the whole thing last? and did you tape it?
We talked for about 15 minutes. I didn't want to take too much of his time up. It really didn't even feel like an interview. We really just had a 15 minute conversation. He was real easy to just talk to
