Actually the song is about the song itself and the fact that it doesnt matter what the lyrics are as long as he sings them using the hook of the song, which is all people are listening to anyway the first time they hear it.

Hook is a great song about writing songs, a very clever topic

and whoever posted about dreaming tree and raven was making a joke, its called being facetious

well yes, you got me 8-) i find the lyrics amusing in the fact that most people will probably never listen closely to the lyrics, and yet they will still love the song anyways, thus proving what the song is actually about.

Im pretty sure he used to play the tune of the song to his sister Jane and she would always like it. Thats how it came to be "Song That Jane Likes." Then he added some lyrics to it involving Shakespeare and plays. (Something like that)
