Am I missing something on STAY

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Am I missing something on STAY

Unread post by AlexBrown » Sat Oct 25, 2003 2:34 pm

Im not good at guitar by a long shot, but this song does not seem very hard. The speed may be the only problem for me. So i am wondering if there is somethin i am missing that makes it hard, like strumming patter or...?

You don't mute all the strings. Most aren't played, you just strum the inside, and the muted strings around it. What I think is hard is there is an upstroking beat thing he has in the song that was a little tough for me at first. You don't even really touch the bass strings at all. If you watch dave, he only really mutes the one string below and above.

i've seen dave's middle finger muting the low E before.....maybe he only does it sometimes, but i play it that way cause i think it sounds good.

this is a frustrating song to me....acousticly i could play it a couple months ago, then i recently practiced it after a long hietus and i definitely can't play it as well anymore...this is very frustrating...i just can't get a good ring tone out of the d and g strings right now...so much easier to play on the electric...any suggestions?

um, it's the xx88xx chord, get your strings right ;) . Anyways, that chord is played by your index finger. You play the first chord, then you lift up your pinky and hold down the xx88xx chord with your index finger (I put the x's there so you can see the strings, he doesn't play all those strings, just 2, with a slight muting above and below). It's very hard to see it, since he doesn't move his index that far.
