Stomp Boxes?

I would like some good recomendations for real bassy natural stomp boxes if you guys have any.

and before i get questions i mean stomp box like REAL stomp box not the name that many pedal effects company adopted for all its floor units, i mean foot operated percussion stomper.

i think i might end up building my own, just a wooden box, shallow and hollow with a soundboard pickup attatched to the inside of the top... thats what im doin if you guys dont have any good suggestions.

Yeh I looked for stompboxes here in Aus. Did lots of research but couldn't find one so ended up building my own. The end product wasn't bad, but is too much of a nuiscance to set up and use. If you're going to build one I've got a fair few tips from what I would do a second time.

Though after i built mine I found a company here that does build boxes that you can get relatively cheap. They'll ship overseas and are a great looking box. I havn't heard them before, but they're pretty unique. They're also really compact. http://www.ellisguitars.com/stompbox.html

I recommend buying one of these, or another, over building your own. Unless you happen to have really good carpentry, microphone and sound setup skills (which you may), it is hard to get a good sound out of a box unless its really well setup (or at least it was for many and others i have heard of).

That is most definately a stompbox. Many artists here in australia use them. The best by far though is Xavier Rudd, hes like a one man band, awesome show. check him out http://www.xavierrudd.com/home.html he influenced me into getting a stompbox. Also check out John Butler Trio 'Ocean'.

Don't be so sure, by the time you buy a mic or pickup for the inside, timber, and then, as i did, a cheap preamp for it, it will end up costing you. And theres no guarantee it will sound any good. I'de go with something pre made and working.

Yeh its a bit cheaper for you guys. I made a few errors in the design of mine that led to it not producing enough 'bassy' tone, it was more of a tap. I actually made the preamp from a kit (cause I'm a cheapass too) and it improved it a fair bit. I also had probs with feedback and the preamp had a ground loop that helped kill most of it.

I dont own one of the ellis stompboxes, although I almost did and still might buy one from my local music store. I do have a homemade stompbox now though, but I dont think its as good as those.

I want one too. For $150 its not too bad either, but then again my guitar doesn't have a pickup and I don't own an amp...hahaha. But they are pretty sweet.

I want one too. For $150 its not too bad either, but then again my guitar doesn't have a pickup and I don't own an amp...hahaha. But they are pretty sweet.

You dont need a pickup in your guitar for it to work If thats what you mean. But yes you do need some sort of ampification for the box. A PA would be fine.
