i've been trying this song for so long and i really am having tons of trouble. and help on learning it. the biggest problem is keeping the 16th strum on the base, i don't see how you can do that, and pick at the same time. this is so hard, any help at all on learning it please?

You dont pick, you slap the bass string with your thumb and pick the rest of the notes with different fingers. Its very hard, took quite a while and I still dont have it good by any means.

I like to use my index for the 2nd string only and the thumb for all the others. This song is not easy by any means so don't get discouraged.

that seems rather inefficient

why not at least use your middle finger?

I actually don't know why I play it that way. It helps me to keep the bounciness of the song. And yes bounciness is a highly technical term I use quite often. I'll give some other ways of playing it a shot. Anyone know how Mayer plays it?

he uses thumb and index in an alternating motion im pretty sure. I find it a lot easier to slap the bass string with thumb and hit the others with index, middle, ring finger.

thanks a lot, that will deff help if you can.
it seems that you have to rotate your wrist to strum instead of moving it up and down, because you always have to be finger picking at the same time. so hard.
