What Guitar Should I Use....

Unread post by Taylor614 » Wed Apr 12, 2006 7:08 pm

for my school talent show. I know you guys helped me out in my song choices, but what guitar should I use. I'll be solo with a sax player for fills. Thanks for the advice.

Yep, I have all these guitars. Just got the 714 bout a week ago, but it's definitely my favorite. :D

Do you buy guitars based on what Dave plays?

I bought the Chet because of Dave, but that's it. I'm glad I did too, because they're discontinued and it sounds great. The 614ce I got when I first started because it was a 2003 LE with 3-piece maple back and sounded incredible, and also got a good deal (sounds 10X better than when I bought it). And the 714, I was actually gonna get an HD-28 (I know a Dave guitar), but I liked what I heard about the 714 and bought that (tested out the 714ce before I made my decision, just to get an idea of what the 714 would sound like). I decided to stick with Taylor. And, like I said earlier, the 714 is definitely my favorite.

"go with the be original"

I'm sort of confused on what you mean by that. Do you mean I should play one of my songs, or buy different guitars, even though I love the sound of the ones that I have.

Be original. Don't buy guitars because Dave Matthews has them.

Use the Taylor 714, better guitar, better tone and it's going to sound better than an Epiphone Chet solo.

you know, whats so wrong with buying a guitar because you're favorite artist has it? we love the sound of the artist and ususally the easiest way to hear those high end guitars is to listen to their music.

this works ESPECIALLY with someone like Dave Matthews who is just an amazing acoustic player because since he's that good and he chose that guitar, it must be worth it.

and last time i checked, Dave had never played an epiphone chet or a 614ce.

Thanks for backin' me up elijah77jc, I wouldn't have bought the guitars if they didn't sound amazing to me. I completely agree with you about buying a guitar that your favorite artist uses. If that's the case, why do they make signature series (DM3MD), and why, if people don't want to idolize their favorite artists or want to be like them, why do they spend so much time on a message board discussing Dave, or any other artist for that matter. I'm on this site all the time, just as I see many others are, and that's because Dave is amazing, and the only reason I started playing guitar to begin with. So, if you guys are gonna mess with me because I might buy brands or models that Dave uses be my guest, but like elijah said, Dave doesn't play a 614ce or an Epi Chet. All I was askin' was some advice on what guitar I should use. I didn't expect to be insulted, based on what my preferences are in guitars.

JUST KIDDING :D

My ideology, plan, outlook, whatever... is simple

do whatever the fuck you want when you want

How does that Epi Chet sound btw?

Is it heavier then say a Les Paul?

You have a great outlook on life and other things. That is exactly how I feel. The Epi Chet sounds sweet, I love it. But, I don't think it compares to a Les Paul because I have a Gibson Les Paul John Sykes signature series guitar and that has a real chunky and heavy sound. Nevertheless, long live my Epi Chet. (I actually play that more than the Les Paul) :D
