Cool,
Save Tonight: guitar playing was really solid. Actually i thougt it all was pretty good, but the thing is, you all seemed to be trying to play really loud and you drown out the singer.
Grey Street: Again good instrumentation but the song did not suit the singer well, it seemed like she was trying to sing an octave too low. Maybe is wasn't rehearsed as much.
wow, 40 mins!! I don't have time to listen to it all, so i'll skip around.
Overall you are all pretty talented. All you need to do is pick better songs that suit your singers voice better. She is a good singer, you cannonball cover is proof, the key is finding more songs like that. Try giving her a delay pedal, it will help during the tougher parts. Also, i dont know what your setup is but a good mic preamp with a condenser and a tube will do WONDERS for vocals.
Turn the bass dooooooown, I don't think he's that bad but its just too loud.
You all need to learn to play more as a group giving each other sonic "space." In other words, play more delicately.
Good Job though, that looked fun

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I think your biggest problem is the girl.
If your singer doesn't play an instrument then they needs to learn something about stage presence. Standing in the same place for 40 minutes without hardly isn't going to get the crowd going at all.
Don't want to be a dick but the singing was pretty bad. If you guys want to get anywhere you might look around for another vocalist. Or she needs to be told to step up.
The guitar work was definately the better part though.

ok few comments:
thanks for the kind words and critiques, i appreciate all of it.
a little background
the vocalist and i have been working together for a year or so now and the bassist is my best friend, so we started playing our instruments together. The drummer, the bassist, and i have jammed together a few times, but never playing "songs" persay. we only practiced as a group once before the show and the poor drummer didnt know half the songs.
that being said i think the drummer is the most talented of us, hes really amazing, and i would say the bassist is better at bass than i am at the guitar.
all we need is more practice i think. we want to play originals so bad, but we have very few and ive written them so they suck. keep the comments coming! Thanks!

holy god that bassist sounds awful. i actually didn't hear one note that sounded right. you sound pretty decent..the girl could use some work..and i can barely hear the drums.
ditch the bassist and the girl, sing yourself, and keep the drummer with you!

I thought I was the only one that wasn't a fan of the girl. I thought the vocals were pretty rocky all around, but especially on Grey Street. As everyone else said, your guitar work is solid. I can't hear the bass (but my headphones are messed up anyway and only coming out of one side...so its most likely just me).Trippin Hillbilly wrote:I think your biggest problem is the girl.

"A George divided against itself cannot stand!"
that is like the nicest thing ive ever been told. that really means alot to me man thanks. Ive found that the more i sing the better i get, i assume you remmeber some of the garbage i posted a while back. so i sing non stop. i have four art classes at school (i am an art NERD) and i listen to my ipod and sing the entire time, my class hates me.Machtimus wrote:Andy, not regarding the video you presented but rather the Never Knew one. There is definately great potential in your singing and playing, but you lack maturity and experience with your voice. I honestly think you could go far with a bit of vocal training. Keep it up.
i feel like i have some days where im pretty good and other where i cant hit a damn thing. im really hoping my voice matures into something decent, because thats what i lONG for, the ability to express myself through just acoustic guitar singer songwriter stuff, just express myself and be happy with how it sounds. I can hear it in my head, and i want it out.
Thanks for the encouragement, ya gave me a real boost, i had been down on my singing for a few weeks now, i feel like ive stagnated a little.
im workin everyday i promise.
