I concur.....there are some apsects of the new sounding Dave voice which I like better than the old, and some aspects of the old I like better than the new....I really like the overall sound of his voice in 97 the best, but I do have to admit the "Yells" from the new style don't get any better than that...mainly the "HERE" part on 41, the "YEAH YEAH YEAH,etc." part right before the 1st jam in LIOG and the "And here I will" on DDTW....give me serious goosebumps.

falsetto=bee gee's. thats the best way to explain it. yeah, some devil is packed full of falsetto which is good and bad i guess cuz sometimes you cant sing one of those falsetto songs to people w/o feeling like a gigantic pansy. :)

My favorite is in Dont Drink the Water when Dave screams at the "Yes, I will call this hoooooome" part, sometimes he doesnt, but when he does its so sick.

All you people that said he sounds better now are on crack. ;)

Being serious though, I'd have to agree that 96/97 were his best years. I havent been to a show since 2000 where dave hit any impressive high notes. Even that year was sort of bleh. He always pusses out and goes an octave low...and to be honest its kind of dissapointing. Those are the notes that I go to hear...the ones that give you chills. He cant yell anymore without being hoarse for days, so those have suffered. I always liked the weirdo dynamic sound he had, and I feel that now its pretty much smoothed over. In that process, the songs have lost some life.

He was recently getting over a vocal strain so I imagine he can't do anything too crazy these days.

The last verse of Busted Stuff is a perfect example of falsetto singing.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I love that song, especially the LS version with stefan going crazy on the bass.
