Sugar Will
The Stone
You Never Know can be tough.

Um, Rhyme & Reason took me a little while to get down.

Fool To Think is easy to play without singing, just not while singing.

What's so hard about OSW? It was the third Dave song I learned (after LIOG and LLD).

The only part of it that really trips me up is the verse, I always stumble on it.

As for the topic, I've got to go with either Warehouse, The Stone, Billies or JTR (I find the intro to be a bitch).

Someone want to give me a pointer on the intro? I'm fine until I get to the 1/3 slide on the D. It's like it sounds out of place to me and doesn't fit the rhythm.

Man, that song frustrates me! I know how to play it theoretically, and I've got the rhythm down well enough, but it hurts so bad! Those stretches are unbearable! My hand cramps up so fast I can only play the song in 45 second bursts or I'll die.

Well, just for starters...do you have a 12 string??

Because I have practiced that song "fingers to the bone", but does not (and will never) sound the same, i lack 6 strings in my guitar.

That's a racher fast slide, did you take a look to the JTR video in the ourmedia site?? That might help more than I could! :P

The Stone, in my opinion.

I didn't have a whole lot of trouble with Warehouse; in fact, I managed to get it down in just a couple of days. It was just one of those that came easier too me than most other songs I try for. But even now, after trying for a few weeks now, I get tripped up on The Stone every time I play through it.

Just me though.

No, unfortunately I don't. I don't think it sounds too bad on 6, though (what little I can play of it lol).

So, what's a "racher fast slide"? And yes, I've watched Gianni's video over and over and I still can't seem to get it.

To play... probably "The Stone". It's very hard to keep it clean consistently for the entire song. Although, after some practice you get quite used to it.

To play and sing at the same time... either Fool to Think or What Would You Say. Still undecided. I'm not even close to being able to sing WWYS, Fool to Think is a little easier for me, but I have spent more time with it.

Yeah, I meant rather, sorry. Well, the thing I've figured out (or it might be just a stupid guess) is that with a 12 string the notes sound longer, thus the whole riff lasts a bit longer than on a 6 str, making it competent for the verse part.

What has happened to me is that the riff ends way too short from the end of the verse (and the start-over of the riff, of course).

My two cents.

the stone really wasn't that tough for me. playing and SINGING the stone is tough for me

doing all the proper mutes on warehouse is kinda tough. i haven't really found many "difficult" dave matthews songs yet, as far as playing them goes, its the playing while singing thing that gets me. i know crazy/captain is supposed to be tough because of the stretches, and i know ive never seen him play it live, but i play it a different way that is 1000 times easier and sounds just the same minus one note from the chord.
