girlfriend looking at getting a guitar...

Unread post by barcode » Sun Oct 19, 2003 5:44 pm

I currently have a Takamine Acoustic/Electric and my girlfriend wants to get into playing guitar too. the problem is that she finds my guitar too big! she has alot of trouble even getting her pointer and ring fingers two frets apart (as in a barre chord)...i'm wondering if she goes for a baby guitar that's 3/4 size will the frets be closer spaced or is it just smaller with less frets?? also, she thinks she may be a lefty (she assumes that since she's right handed it would be easier to make chords with the right hand and strum with the left), so is there any sure way to find out? also, what would you guys recommend for a smaller guitar if you wanted to keep in the $150-200 range?

thanks,
Anthony

definitely get her a 3/4 size guitar or a thinbody. 3/4 have the same size frets, just a smaller body.

most of the students i have are female, and many have problems playing because or their large *ahem* breasts. thinbodies help A LOT

and dont try to teach her if you want her to remain your girlfriend

Yeah, Ive never tried teaching a g/f but teaching friends gets real annoying, I imagine itll be much worse with a g/f too.

Goddamn, thank god you brought this up(the teaching part). My friends(same guy as on the thread about prick guitar players) is really pissing me off. He is like"teach me all these dave songs" and I want too, but he is soo damn stupid! First of all, he counts be "down ups" and not by 1,2,3,4. Now, Im a drummer(hence the name)and counting is obviously is a big part, but it pissed me off soo much when he expects me to know how many "down ups" are in this part. Also, he never practices. Once again, I practice all the time for drums and guitar. Now, Im not saying Im a great guittarist or anything, or that Im the greatest drummer. But both came soo easilt that it makes me mad when He asks me to teach him stuff. AAAAARRRRHHHHHGGGG!Any way thats all, just gotta blow off a little steam!

teaching guitar (especially to girlfriends) is TOUGH! i got into so many arguments. just a mess. it was like "well, atleast try" "no, i cant do it" "well, i dunno what to say" "you are a dick" "what? im being very patient" "you ALWAYS do this" and so it goes. good luck to you bro. hopefully it will be easier.

LOL! yeah, i could already play before i went seeking some guidance so the "lessons" my buddy gives me are pretty smooth but i can see how it would be really hard to actually teach finger positions and changes and stuff...give me someone that can play notes by name and it'd be fun to teach SONGS instead of theory :)
