i know, just fundamentaly it doesnt matter the strings as long as the theory and playing is similar.praisedave wrote:im just wondering where the line is drawn im not tryin to be a dick hahafilmdude100cms wrote:12 string, 7 string, basses are 4 and 5, 11 is just fine.praisedave wrote:at what point does it cease to be a guitar? because i would define a guitar as a 6 stringed fretted instrumentbassman462 wrote:godin makes a fretless guitar with 11 strings.

gumbo, I play a wide variety of music, but you got my style pretty close. I have played slide guitar for a while now aswell, but only find satisfaction in alternative tunings with slide (which is annoying because I'm constantly retuning). I also dont think a frettless is that alike to slide guitar. It's more about developing the skills to be able to hit the notes and has a pretty different sound. and i guess just being able to say that you can play it is a bit of a hook! how many people do you know who could play one?

Evey Hammond: Who--who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what... and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

i would imagine that you would need to use different tunings on a fretless guitar to make certain chord voicings more accessible. otherwise, playing some chords would be impracticalmatonfan101 wrote:gumbo, I play a wide variety of music, but you got my style pretty close. Why thank youGSR wrote:bwaha, good luck with all this.

Now I'm looking at the Godin fretless acoustic. ( http://www.godinguitars.com/godinmultnylonfretlessp.htm )But I'd say it would cost a packet (does anybody know?). I'll just have to save for a while to get an instrument like this, which like I said sucks, because I dont even know if I'll like it.

i know what you mean-- but about changing tunings for slide-- i pretty much use the slide for solos ala Warren Haynes, so i dont need to change tunings. And if i do want to create chords, i just put it in drop D. Just a suggestion because in drop D you can have the bottom three strings become power chords, and have some other cool barring posibilities.matonfan101 wrote:gumbo, I play a wide variety of music, but you got my style pretty close. I've kinda put the fretless project on hold for now, at least until i get more money. If i ever get around to buying a new guitar i think i'll convert my beater electric to fretless. I'll post anything further on here for sure, thanks for all the help!
