Has there ever...?

Unread post by Twostep13 » Mon Mar 27, 2006 1:08 am

Has there ever been such a great band that has only had a rythem guitarist like DMB? (assuming that you consider him that, i know hes not a lead, but hes got some "riffy" type stuff)

i know its a little biased, but im just trying to think of a famous band that doesnt have a lead guitar in it that solos all the time...

in the rock genre, there aren't too many, but it happens a lot in other genres. probably one of the most famous strictly rhythm players was Freddie Green, the guitarist for the Count Basie Orchestra. he played with them for 50 years and never took a solo.

Funny, I just read that the other day. Though I heard he very seldom took solos, not "never" took them.

i wouldn't want to try to solo on the guitars he played, if you've ever seen how high is action was, you would agree. i could literally stick my forearm between the strings and fretboard

Im sure there are plenty of known / unknown bands out there that are equivalent or better than the Dave Matthews Band.

Thats a pretty bold statement. I know there is plenty of talent running around out there, but the band are professionals at what they do. They're not new to this music thing.

well there's a group called the David Crowder Band and the lead singer has a very "davish" style.

It's not bold at all. While they are good musicians and can play very well together, they aren't nearly the best at what they do.

I don't know if this is what you're asking, but Tool only has one guitarist, and he really doesn't do any lead stuff.

actually i was asking if there are any bands out there that are as widely known and as famous as DMB that only have a rhythem guiytar in it.... cuz i cant really think of one band other than DMB that is crazy famous like they are and doesnt have a lead in it...
bcuase if you look at so many bands htat make it huge out there alot follow a certain mold, ya know singer, 1 or 2 guitars, bass, drummer, maybe a piano/keyboard
there are very few that have a violin and sax/flute/etc in them like DMB does, and fewer still that make it huge... its just kind of a testament to how good their music really is i think

does bob dylan ever play lead
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.
