I'd check out Seagulls. That was my first axe and I still love the sound of it. I bought a Larrivee a couple years ago but still go back to that seagull and love that sound. Can get superb deals on these puppies and they are wonderful, have a great dynamic range and the scale length is a bit shorter than most so that it's easier to get to learn those awesome Dave stretches that make the hand cramp up like a mo fo. If anyone ever asks me for a low priced excellent guitar, I will always say Seagull or any of the couple low dollar things that the LaSiDo / Godin guitar line offers. Excellent Canadian woodworking craftsmanship to produce wonderful tap tones that produce great sonic range from the guitars when strung up. Go for the gusto go with a gull. You won't be let down. That's my 2 cents for y'all.

^What he said. Seagulls are amazing guitars for the money. I was very close to buying one before I upgraded but decided to spend some more cash. BUT, as an entry level guitar, I don't think there is anything out there that compares.dmbfaninmass wrote:I'd check out Seagulls. That was my first axe and I still love the sound of it. Don't listen to these naysayers. I have two Ovations (one is for sale).
Ovations aren't that bad, and they especially kick ass plugged in.
Obviously it doesn't sound as good as my D35, but that's not the point.
You don't go recording with the O; it's made for playing out.
The back does take a little getting used to, but it's not too bad.
Just go to the store and play an Ovation, as well as Alvarez, Takamine, Seagull, etc.
Choose the one you like.
