Price of a guitar set-up

Unread post by Cor » Wed Mar 15, 2006 8:04 pm

I checked on a price to get my guitar set-up from a local music store.

They said $40. Is this an acceptable price? I haven't any experience of ever getting a full set-up, so I'm not sure if I'm getting a little screwed, which I think I am.

I emailed them back about it. the biggest thing is that I need my action lowered. They said they can do that. I assume string change+intonation+lowered action.

I assumed it'd be around 25 bucks.

Well, lowering your action (especially on an acoustic) can be a bitch, and getting the guitar reintonated can also be a bitch. I'd say the few hours+bitchfests saved would be worth $25-$40

Cool. I wasn't exactly sure of what I was getting into. I have set-up electrics before (I used to work in a guitar shop), but never acoustics. Thanks for the info.

I'm hoping to find another place that will do it for less. The Guitar Center here doesn't do it at all. I went to a relatively well-known music store though in the suburban Detroit area.

If it was an older guitar, I'd enjoy the challenge, but I bought a new Taylor awhile ago (410ce) and it's not worth fucking up, ya know?

Thanks for the input.
