HD28V @ G Crapper

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

HD28V @ G Crapper

Hey y'all, i'm brand spankin' new to the boards and i love this website!!!

Anyways, played a beatiful Martin HD28V last night at my local Guitar Center. Wen through the usual Dave stuff, Christmas Song just sounded beautiful as always. Bartender rocked! Gotta love that Drop-D! Asked the local sales rep to put on some fresh ones, and he said he would need 20% down to do that. Just goes to show "Guitar Center" should be renamed "Guitar Crapper." Anyways, little did this guy know that I was ready to buy, but with his smart-ass response he lost a sale! Any Guitar Center associates out there need to be educated on how to treat customers!!!

Welcome to the boards!
I did a little double take when I first saw your name cause it's very similar to a less-than-friendly member of the boards.
Yeah guitar center does suck but my local store is full of a bunch of uptight pricks. They don't give you any help and if you even step foot in the high-end acoustic room they run to intercept you. I guess the trick is to keep going back until you find the right person to deal with.
Whats the difference between the regular 28's and the Vintage. Is it a different feel or sound or both?

How does the bracing affect the sound?

man, I guess I am lucky to have Good & Loud Music here. I love hanging out with the guys there. They all know me by name, it's like cheers ecxept I am not a bar fly, I am a guitar fly. They fix my guitar neck for 20 bucks in under 15 minutes. They don't care if you come in just to play, and they don't cut down your time, just as long as you are being respectful to everyone else there (so no heavey metal for 2 hours straight ;) ). I go in to get strings, and 2 hours later I leave because I was playing the guitars, and I LOVE their Guilds. GOOD AND LOUD MUSIC RULES!
Yes, I am in a box

I was off yesterday and drove 30 mins. to visit a new Sam Ash store in Cincy and played for about an hour with no pesty sales people. It was great! Guitar center was 5 mins away but I decided not to go b/c of past bad experiences. I am sure there are success stories out there about that place but I will never buy there. Support the small shops. They can usually match and offten do better.

well i guess from reading your guys views of Guitar Center i'll stay away from there...i may go there this weekend just to get a keyser capo because sam ash is always out ....sam ash is a great store ....sometimes the sales rep working the acoustic room sits and jams w/ ya ...i might go down there as well and try out the martin d-15 and get a feel for it.

really. GC has always been really nice to me. i usually get almost 25% discounts when i talk them down, and the guys are really nice to me. i've had them show me how to do several kinds of repairs and have had them reset stuff on my first guitar for free. maybe all the other ones suck. but the one i used to go to in St. Louis was awesome.

The sales rep I saw at GC was nice. The guy at desk was a dick though..

I like Sam Ash better than Guitar Center because the GC employees tend to look down on you for some reason, but I usually go to GC cause everytime I go to Sam Ash I get sick after I leave. I've thrown up twice after I left there. Very strange.

To Somedevil8:

Just want to make sure that you are aware that if you are shopping for a Martin you should always be able to get 40% off of the retail list price. You can check what the suggested retail price is at the martin website and then take 40% off of that and you will get the price you should pay. Dont accept anything less than 40 percent, especially at guitar center.

One thing i'd have to say.. Guitar center, NEVER kicks me or everydaydmbfan out.. we jam there and sam ash for hours.. they usually tell us to go in the sound proof room, but never throw us out.. If you were wanting to buy the guitar, why didn't you just drop the 20% down on it anyway? you were gonna buy it anyway..

If any shop wants 20% down to put new stings on an instrument for you to try I would say F--- em. Bad business and Martin should be notified that this particular guitar center is doing this.
