just wanted to share this sentiment

Last night I watched the band play Ants Marching on Saturday Night Live from back in the mid 1990's. It really left me with a good feeling, a purity of music so to speak. The sound was so raw, so excited. This was before the internet was big, before they played mega-concerts every night, before Dave Matthews was a household name. It was one of those feelings like looking at a photo albumn and seeing eveyone you know at a younger age and remembering what your childhood house. The perfomance had such an innocent quality to it - its not something I can really put my finger on but it really left me feeling good. Just thought I'd share - I didn't know I could feel new feelings towards the band and their music but I guess that is always possible.

It's because he's become a better singer in the last few years.

If you listen to some older recordings and compare them to now, there is a HUGE improvement in his voice quality.

is it not just a maturity rather than an improvement?

hand in hand i guess.

i'm not a trained singer but my girlfriend is and she noted that someone told him how to use his voice properly and that's why it sounds much differently.

i heard it was due to drinking and smoking.

like i said...hand in hand with maturity. yes cutting back on smoking and drinking will change your voice...but he sure has had someone help him out with technique. so i'd say both are a factor.

singing in key has improved over the many years.

I loved that warehouse tease beacause the band was told that they had to play the hits, ants and wwys and when they started playing warehouse all the producers and the record label were freaking out. Everything is funnier on live tv :P
