i finally got those factory Elixers off of my 814 last night and put some REAL strings on. the difference in tone with the d'addarios is like night and day.
and i thought it sounded sweet before. now that it doesn't sound like it is being played from the bottom of a swimming pool, it's GREAT.

did i mention they are coated d'addarios and they last just as long as elixers?
except they coat the wrap wire instead of dipping the whole steing into a vat of rubber like Elixer, so they feel and sound like uncoated strings.

i hate polyweb as well.
nano's are still too much like coated strings to me, and they do coat the whole string with a thin coat. the d'addario EXP's are not slippery like the nano's because they coat the wrap wire first. they also don't go all flakey like the elixers.

ehh, when I strung up some EXP's on my Taylor they sounded like poop. all i could get my hands on were mediums, and that's not the best for my guitar, so it could be that the lights sound a whole lot better...

most taylors are set up for mediums. except the baby and other little guitars use lights.
right now i have exp lights on the five higher strings and on the low E i have an elixir .056. i think i really like it cuz i can do bass slides easily but still have the feel on the other strings for soloing.
Elixirs are great for riffs and stuff but when i try to solo and i am less sure about my finger placement it is easy to slip off the strings when bending notes and all.

I think tico owns a 714ce. yeah pretty sure. he likes the cedar tops, if I remember correctly. the lights would be better in that case.
good, and you?

only the taylor dreds and jombos use mediums.
the x12's and x14's use lights. and lights are better for the x14's, especially one with a cedar top. mediums put too much tension on the wood and pinch it so it will not sound as good.
