Guitar why

Unread post by fede » Thu Mar 02, 2006 10:23 pm

Why does dave use "baritone electric guitars", can't he use normal tuned and play the same???

Why does he use some far fetched tunings like the Raised B[which I realised existed only when listening to dave] and others when he can play it capoed and standard tuned.

I don't take drop D into consideration, since it's more widely used, and far less complicated to achieve.

Um, raised b is a huge bitch in standard because you have to capo at 7 which makes chords lower down the guitar a pain in the ass, and can you truly tune to baritone with a regular guitar?

Raised B and Baritone tunings are the same but different octaves.

not only chords are more difficult to play, but they sound different ;)

and openly tuned raised b guitar is easier to play, and sounds a ton better. the capo is weird, and sometimes itll bend your outer strings at that height, and kill your pitch. baritone, for a song with lower vocals, or a "darker feel" he might pick it, or for kinda just a different feel, that seems normal but with something just a bit off that you like, such as in "space between". you cant tune a guitar town to it, and theres a relitive tuning i know, that works in the same key, and is about as deep, but if you arent using fairly heavy strings theyre like speghetti. so, umm there you go.

)You have to admit, it is creative and it fits dave's style. Still a bitch to re-in-act but what can you do? Dave's music is what he wants it to be. That's it. Thats all.

I'd actually prefer to have a baritone than a "normal" electric guitar. Simply because of that B you get in the 6th string. 1st to 5th in the baritone are almost the same as 2nd to 6th in the electric. The only difference is that, in the baritone, there isn't a G string, it's a F#.

Why does he use weird tunings like that? I would guess that he get's bored with the tones of standard tuning. Changing the tuning offers different and unique tones and allows chords with open strings to ring that are different than standard.

Well, the baritone has a whole bunch of frets, it might be possible to play Stay Or Leave on it, capoing the 12th fret.

Dave isn't the first and he won't be the last to use some weird tunings for some songs. If you plan on playing guitar your whole life I'd suggest getting used to it.
