I like the Tim "solo" on Up and Away, I think it's the only improv section on the album. at least it sounds like it is.
good, and you?

hmmm. I like Too High, kinda reminds me of Rhyme or Reason kindof. like that kind of eerie "I'm going out of my mind" type of song. although I could be wrong. anyway, I like it in a strange way.

i like the song itself, but dave's voice has this awful reverb on it the whole time that makes it impossible to listen to

you know dave obviously produced the album with steve. Those effects could be Dave's idea.

I haven't listened to more than a handful of the songs...but thats because I really would like to sit down and pay attention to them like I do with most of my new albums...I think Trouble is an awesome song...probably because of the lyrics

wow elliot...i was expecting to hear a slew of how much dave matthews and some devil sucked. however that post was amazing and i agree with most of it. grey blue eyes...eww, trouble, up and away, and oh are like you said fun but cheesy. an' another thing is awful, but gravedigger, save me and too high are amazing. as of course is stay or leave. and same deal with so damn lucky, verse isn't great but the chorus is catchy.

oh, gcom, what d'ya think of Mayer's album? I picked it up the same day as Some Devil. I gotta say, that it's growing on me like a bad weed. I think it's a great album, probably better than Some Devil :o What do you think?? Clarity is awesome, Something's missing is great, I even like Bigger than my Body, and the rest of them are good too. What do you think of it? I assume you've bought it.
Yes, absolutely did pick up Mayer's new album and I love it. Clarity really is an amazing track and despite the more stripped down technical approach, he still manages to put great songs together. The more you listen to it, the more it really opens up as well. It's not near as cut and dry as his previous material's been. Even songs that I didn't like at first such as Split Screen Sadness have grown on me as the lyrics are just really strong. Wheel is a phenominal song, and so what if Bigger Than My Body is awesome!? I love that song probably more now than I did when I first heard it. There's just something about it...definitely a stronger effort than Some Devil, but, it was a lot more focused effort. Mayer did an amazing job with his Ya-ya's on RFS. It very much maintained focus, but this album is phenominal. It's just a very well rounded and focused album that is a lot of fun to listen to. Homelife is amazing. Major booya there. Thats' it.

I agree completely. The first time I listened to the album, I was sort of like meh blah. but the more I listened to it, the more it opened up, like you said, and even the songs I didn't like at first are growing on me. The tunes on this album are very well produced and arranged with great taste and simplicity yet it has a unique sound. I love Homelife when it quites down like its gonna end and that snaps back to the chours, fuckin' great. Daughters is a sweet little song too. Definatley more soul in John's vocals (Clarity....) on this album. anyway, oh hey and how about the quick fingerpickin' goin' on in Clarity if you listen closely. well no doubt you've already learned the song, but I just think that his playing is so subtle yet so intricate and "skillful" the man can play, and he makes it sound easy. I think he's the most talented artist in pop right now.
good, and you?

he definitely is the most talented artist in pop right now and this album says a lot...he will stick around and the best is yet to come...btw, he's planning on doing an acoustic album in the near future that many of you who were more fans of IWO should enjoy...

Its a great little song
The album (as well as this thread) is over a year old now, but I think it would be fair to say that the some songs from Some Devil appeal to some, not to others and vice versa. Perhaps an overproduced album DMB fans were not expecting. But keep in mind that it isnt DMB, its just dave. Stay or Leave is easily the best song, others I liked were Oh, Save Me, Gravedigger, Dodo. Gravedigger can be either acoustic or electric to me, works well either way, almost like 2 different songs. Other songs were either just bad, or had only some catchy parts thrown into an average song. Overall I acceptted this album, its good...not great, good though.

I like everything off of Some Devil, except for An' another thing, that song is just painful.

I was watching Clockwork Orange the other day, and I noticed that he says, "It's like there's some devil inside of me." I wonder if thats where dave got the idea.
