STJL q's

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

STJL q's

so i posted something a couple days ago in the recording section about how i wanted to do a cover of STJL

for those that have this song down - are there distinct breaks between each chord, i've got a couple of different versions of this song and i really can't tell how its supposed to be, and did it take you a while to get the timing of the lyrics down?
thanks

Let's take the verse for an example.

There are six chords in the verse

Code: Select all

Verse
E:-3----3----0----1----3/5--
B:-0----1----1----1----1/3--
G:-0----0----2----2----0----
D:-0----2----2----3----2/4--
A:-2----3----0----3----3/5--
E:-3--------------1---------
For the first four, which include the G, C, Am, and F, for each one of those chords, you will hit them twice, with two downstrokes. I can describe it, but it doesn't make sense online enough for anyone to understand, unless you really want me to...

As for the timing inbetween chords, I don't know if you are familiar with muting, but it is a Down-Up-Down-Up muting pattern, and should sound something like this-

Again, this is only my interpretation of the song, but I find it to be accurate, so it's the best I can do. Hope it helps.

Man of the Hour, that sounds just about perfect, except the high e wasnt exactly emphasized on the last slide, but yeah, strumming was perfect.

to make the strumming easier i play the G, C, and Am as barre chords so i can mute easier, but u can really do it either way its just less work IMO
if i were giving advice to someone on how to fly.....

id probably say throw yourself at the ground..and miss.

As for the ending, I play this. Slightly different from the official one. The chords after the slide are less complex but the high e and B strings are really the only prominent sound.

Code: Select all

e---------0--3/5--3--2-----------------3-----
B---------1--1/3--3--2--1--1--1--------3-----
G---------X--X-X--0--0--X--0-----------------
D---------2--2/4--------2--X-----------------
A--0--2---3--3/5--------3--2--0--------2-----
E--------------------------------3--2--3-----
                     X

not really, it always seemed easy to me. I struggled much more with Billes and Typical Situation, singing and playing at the same time.
