Well, to begin with, you do well in trying to sing with your voice and not try to impersonate dave, that just makes you lose important depth in your chords, cause you have to twist it. get it?

I study singing, and it took me a while to focus on both the guitar and the voice, mainly it's a matter of practice and coordination. one of the first things my profesor told me was "sing with your voice not the performer's one".

That apllies to anything, not just dave.

Then again, practice, at home, alone, whatever, just bare in mind that if you start singing dave go back.

I hope that helps, if you have any other question ask. I hope I can be more helpful with the next one.

I hope you dont mind me jumping in with questions too. Do you have anything in particular to practice? I mean I keep hearing people say to practice practice practice, but what if I'm practicing the wrong technique? Then I'm just going to reinforce my suckiness. So, basically my question, is do you have any excercises for a beginner to make sure I can practice correctly?

One thing I have found very helpful is to keep your throat very relaxed while singing. I have found that to sing like dave, most people have to manipulate their voice by using the muscles in the throat and around the jaw to produce the desired sound. Remember, singing should be an extension of your speaking voice so if you're straining, its probably not right.

Keep singing. Time is the only thing that can reveal what you have to offer. I don't care how much ou practice. There are a lot of people that have been playing for a few years that are "better" i.e. faster than me, but I garuntee that they can't find the style that I have spent the last 13 years developing for myself.

Keep playing, it will come to you. Don't rush things.
