Yeh, that would be sweet to have a guitar passed down like that. But If you were to hold on to lets say your 000-16RTE and, then 70 years from know have it appraised. I don' think it will be even close to this. Just because these guitars [martins] are so mass produced that one from this year is not very rare. Now maybe if all the trees in the world were to go extinct or Martin go out of business then I would say we are all sitting on a nice nest egg!Festivus wrote:Do you think that if we hold on to our guitars for like 100 years and pass them donw they'll be worth that much someday? It would be pretty cool to have a guitar passed down from generation to generation.

Thats how ebay works. You put in a max bid youre willing to pay. Say the current bid was $50 and you put in a max bid of $100 So right now youre the highest bidder at say $55 If somone was to try to bid $75, ebay would automatically bid $76 for you, and would keep bidding for you as long as someone didnt put in a max higher than your max. The other person doesnt actually get a bid through because you had a higher max, and ebay rebids for you. So the person didnt actually bid more than once, someone else tried to bid and the original person had a higher max then the second guy that tried to bid, so ebay put in another bid for the original guy.Twostep13 wrote:if you look at the bid history, why does it have people bidding multiple times in a row? if you were to ibd, wouldnt you wait for someone to out bid you before you start bidding more?
Hope you can understand that, I think Im even confused after typing it out

I believe that ebay has an autobid function, that lets you put your maximum bid in, and it automatically bids in increments for you.Twostep13 wrote:if you look at the bid history, why does it have people bidding multiple times in a row? if you were to ibd, wouldnt you wait for someone to out bid you before you start bidding more?
EDIT: oops, I've had this page open for a while without refreshing it. Jayme just bout covered it.

kinda a cool story...my best friends dad (who is quite well off, his family started the Oneida Community, makers of Oneida silverware)...anway, he played in a bluegrass band since the 50s and one day we got on the topic of old martins, and he was like ooooooooo shit i use to have 5 or 6 from the late 50s and early 60s, ive sold most of them off over the years but we can go try to unburry some from the attic see what i still got up there. i was like FUCK YEAH, soooo excited. anyway, first he pulled out this gigantic jumbo (dont even know the name) but it was in great condition, from the mid 60s. Next he pulled out a sick old school resinator, and just started to jam on this thing that was surprisingly still semi intune (well atleast it didnt sound like total shit haha). anyway next was the martin. great condition, a few cracks in the fish. he said it was all brazillian rosewood from the 60s such a beautiful guitar. worse part is, he said that he bought all the guitars for maybe a couple hundred bucks, sold all but the one a years ago for just over a grand a piece (i guess he sold them to a friend of the family or some shit)
he says it was one of his biggest regrets ever.
