I think the guitar has already seen it's glory days...
I was thinking today, after hearing a DJ on a local Atlanta rock station comment that these new bands (he used The Strokes and The White Stripes as examples) that are so hailed as being "ground breaking" and "revolutionary" are really doing nothing more than copying the great bands of yester year (he used the Who and Zepplin). I don't completely agree as there are indeed alot of great artist doing amazing things, however no mainstream band has come along since 2000 IMHO that has done anything terribly inovative. More specifically to my topic, I don't thing there will be many great famous guitarist for here on. The guitar is a fairly recent thing to come along, a tad over 100 years, the electric guitar even newer. I really do think the majority of new players will not be acknowledged as "Gods" ever again. No matter how good a blues player you may ever get, to most people, you are just copying SRV, Muddy Water, BB King, Robert Johnston, ect. Hard rock your copying Satch, EVH, Paige... Even Justin King can be said to be nothing more than a Michael Hedges rip off. And very few new "great" guitarist have acheaved any major fame. I'm not knocking on any one at all, it just is an idle interpretaion. Thoughts?
There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Strongly disagree! However i do agree with newer bands not being all that great but it will just take time for another guitar god to bust through the resraints of musical theory and think outside the box and come up with some ground breaking stuff.. lol hopefully me!
One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain
So hit me with music, hit me with music
So hit me with music, hit me with music

But all great music should be inspiration for others. There are only a few Hendrix's, SRV, David Gilmour's out there. Most people will copy...

Agreed. I find it a bit frustrating, but well, there's this frase that says that everything has already been done.jkanter wrote:Keller Williams...nuff said

Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"
there are people in every generation that are revolutionary. you wont realize they were until later on.

i disagree...but am having a hard time explaining why. basically, if you knew there was a next thing, either youd be doing it or it wouldnt be "next" it would be "now". its like...from what i udnerstand, youre kind of saying that everyone next is gonna be considered, in some way or another, a copy of someone already great in a certain genre. but really, there are more styles that people can use, more techniques, some that have probably not seen the light of day. who knows.

well every time you think someone is copying buddy guy, he was just copying bb king, who was copying robert johnson and he was copying something else
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again
